Battle.net Launcher asking for admin -- cannot update WoW

I am having the same issue i cannot update or play the game because it is asking me to be on an admin account, but i already am it has all the permission it needs.

It’s been a few days with this same bug for me. Ive tried as everyone has suggested and i still seem to be bugged out. Please help us.

Same issue restart not working, can’t access desktop ap on Mac

same here, 4 days now extremely frustrating

Still no fix / not working. Come on Blizzard. Fix your BS.

Same here - its been days since I have played. this is awful.

On Saturday this resolved for me with a scan and repair. I have updated my mods. Things were fine. It worked flawlessly Sunday all day. And today until 9PM pacific, then IT STARTED AGAIN!!! WHILE I WAS PLAYING!!! OS wanted to force quit wow cause it was hogging up resources. ITS THE UPDATE FUNCTION!!! now it wants admin access again… IT NEVER DIDN’T HAVE IT!!! WTF? How have you not fixed this? WE PAY YOU MONEY!!! THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AT ALL LET ALONE MULTIPLE TIMES

Same issue here :
macOS 10.14.6
After the last Battle.net update I Think

Same thing for me.
I updated my Mac to the new Monterey, shut off and restart, no change.
Delete the blizz folder, did nothing, no change.
Still have the update showing as pending and occasionally with a little red bit on the bar.
I get the ‘please allow update by unlocking’ but why do I get that? Blizz already has access
then:
more help-- BLZBNTAGT00000871
which is not helpful.

Very tired of this. Game has been down for days.

Same issue, the game asks for pending update - when I click to update it says its missing admin permission, only one user on this Mac - and it is Admin - all permissions granted to Blizz.
Running MacOS 12.0.1 on MacPro 13 2019.
The game have been down for days now - no solution in sight, terrible experience.

FIX THE DAMN ISSUES or REFUND MY MONEY

Same issue here, Bnet keeps requesting admin permission to make changes, then says WoW needs to be updated, it doesn’t update and says oops something broke. This has been happening since 11/11. I’m on a 15in Macbook Pro 2015, running OS monterrey 12.0.1. Its worth noting IT WAS WORKING FINE MORNING OF 11/11 and no blue tweet or comprehensive blue post on any forum of a timeline regarding a fix or update. My game time has been eaten at and I can’t play. Fix it

sick of this. Ive done all the things Im supposed to, same as everyone else. This is you Blizz, fix your mess please

I got this from GM and tried these steps, twice. The problem persists. I am unable to Update wow shadowlands through battlenet.

Decided to un-dust my software engineer degree…

Seems the permission of a file in the WoW Folder forbids the update of WoW…

Solution :
Select the WoW directory > command-I (information window) > Unlock it (little lock on the bottom) > (permissions should look like User (Me) R&W, admin R&W, everyone R&W) a bit funky but that is what they were at…

Use the little sprocket menu > Apply to Enclosed Items

Try to update after… For me it solved the issue.

@Dev Team
No update for 4 days! Please respond. I have had this issue since 11/11 and tried all the suggestions including giving my users for the WoW folder full Read & Write permissions bot in Get Info and Terminal.
Any news you can give will help!

I am also getting this update error on my iMac so I put in a ticket. The fixes were done, all the WoW games updated and installed fine. Unfortunately when I tried to play them they asked for admin permission, but got another error. I rebooted my computer and now I’m back to the beginning, everything is stuck updating. Ticket has been resubmitted.

Been Trying all day today to get updated. Currently Using MAC OS Monterey 12.0.1. It keeps giving me the BLZBNTAGT00000BB8 message when i try to update WOW classic and TBC Classited. I then tried to go backdoor way of opening launcher and getting this error message:

ERROR #154 (0X8510009a)

I’m also having this same problem. macOS Monterey 12.0.1. I finally got it to stop doing the “Update” after several uninstall/reinstall, but when I push the play button, a huge list of errors pop up…

The CAS system was unable to initialize: ClientHandler: initialization error: failed fetching the CDN configuration file

ClientHandler: initialization error: failed fetching the CDN configuration file

ClientHandler: initialization error: failed fetching the CDN configuration file

tact::ClientHandler::Create failed: E_IO_ERROR
[20211117T21:26:08] {50639} INF: adding network address

(deleted all the text below this super long error screen because it has blizzard links which aren’t allowed to be posted it seems)

There is a asolution on the other forum thread that solved my issue, re-posting the steps here. Hope it helps.

@Blizzard guys this is what you get when you make the app in C++ and then port it to Mac OS. You wanted to save time but in the end you made the players suffer for a week. Please fix this ASAP as Im tyred of doing this every time I want to play.

This is what I have to do to get the “Update” button go back to “Play”.

I move my Addons folder into my Trash (DONT EMPTY IT)
I can now hit “Play” when I launch Battle.net.
I load up WoW TBC. Then exit it, but keep Battle.net open.
Move my Addon folder back where it was (Interface folder).
Then launch WoW TBC again.

If I exit out of WoW and Battle.net I have to redo that all over. It’s the only thing I’ve found to work consistently. Otherwise, it just stays on "Update.
I hope this helps!
