Battle.net is unable to properly identify your application

I have been having trouble getting in to battle.net on Diablo II LOD. Single Player works but Multi Player is not working. When I try to play I receive this error message:

Battle.net is unable to properly identify your application version.

I have searched for solutions but have been unable to get it to work. I did everything on this post but was still unable to play:

Hi,

What version of Diablo II LoD are you running ? You can find the version on the main menu.

The “unable to identify version” error often occurs if you are running version 1.14B… the current version is 1.14D. In order to get version 1.14D, you need to patch your game.

In theory, you should be able to patch the game by connecting to Classic Battle.Net – I could never get that to work. So the workaround is to download the patch from Blizzard’s FTP site and install it. Copy the URL for the appropriate version (Windows or Mac) and paste it in your browser; hit Enter to initiate the download. Then execute the downloaded file to patch your game to 1.14D

  • Diablo II LoD Windows patch: http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/diablo2exp/patches/PC/LODPatch_114d.exe

  • Diablo II LoD Mac patch:
    http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/diablo2exp/patches/Mac/LOD_Patcher_114d.app.zip

Just in case you’re wondering… those links are from the last paragraph in this Support Note.

Best of luck with this – let us know if that solves the issue.

That’s strange, when I checked the patch earlier it told me that I was running with the latest patch. I think what happened was something I read about the patch and Diablo II not linking correctly. It is now working. Thank you for your help!
