Unable to run the installer
steps taken:
- Download mac installer
- unzip Battle.net-Setup.app
- Run file (on first attempt it asked me to install Rosetta and of course I did)
- Nothing happens, app icon opens in dock but nothing else
I am using a Macbook Air M2 with Sequoia 15.2. Fresh factory reset with no other apps installed (asides from default Mac apps). I had Battle net installed before I performed the factory reset but I had so much old junk taking up space I wanted a clean start, now I cant install Battle net again.
I have also tried running from terminal but to no avail, I have checked firewall and permissions but firewall is switched off and there are no permissions that should be blocking the installer.
The only troubleshooting information I can find is from the activity monitor and it just says Not responding. I can also see what I think is a stack trace in the activity monitor but it doesn’t seem useful, just a bunch of AppRelocation directories

Im also having the same issue on a brand new M3 MacBook Air. checked firewall settings, set an explicit allow connections for battle.net and I’m a full administrator on my new machine. Is there anything else left to try?

Exact same issue for me. Contacted Blizzard but they just referred me to the most generic Troubleshooting page that didn’t help.

I’ve seen it reported for Mac OS, Windows and Linux installs on official forums and subreddits. Seems like an issue a lot of people are facing at the moment.

Same BLZBNTAGT00000840 issue on my MacBook Air M3 Sequoia 15.2. Can Blizzard support provide a response if this is being looked at?

After lots of back in forth with putting in tickets this is what blizzard said to me.
In addition I have noticed you mention that your device is a Mac, with this detail I’ve search and found we had some issues regarding this situation and find this error may be due to certain configurations that we can’t give you a workaround as it’s not completely about our programs (and we don’t want to ruin your device ^^‘’) such as errors with the device, external programs running in the background, etc.
While we can’t tell you what to do in these specific cases (even if it is our mistake, an apology) I will give you some links that I found that help some players, once again I stress that we do not provide the support and that in this kind of cases I strongly suggest you to go to a trusted local technician.
Unfortunately I’ve tried everything over the last 48 hours to try and fix the issue. It seems it is something on Blizzard’s end. Hoping they are well aware and working to fix it with some idea as to what is going on.
Same issue here. Unable to install battle.net client on a fresh MacBook Air M2. Installation starts, then comes error BLZBNTAGT00000840. Mac OS Sonoma 14.6

I have the same issue. Funny that its already 7 days and they didnt give any real info out. Its like they dont want our money lol.
I have a MacBookPro with an M4 chip that I bought thinking it would run amazingly well but I can’t even download the app . I tried everything and even reseting my Mac but there is nothing that could fix that . I even bought Starcraft Remastered but what’s the point if I can’t even run the app in my Mac .
Good day everyone.
An investigation has been opened for this but we are in need of logs to help narrow down what is happening. If you are still experiencing the issue please follow the steps below and email us the logs. Thank you for your assistance.
-
- Download LogGoblin_Mac.zip
- Close the Battle.net desktop app if it’s running.
- In Finder, navigate to your user account Downloads (~/Downloads) directory and double-click the archive to extract LogGoblin.
- Run LogGoblin and wait a few minutes while your Battle.net desktop app logs are gathered.
- A zip file named BattleNetLogs-[YYYY-MM-DD].[HHMMSS].zip, which contains all of your log files, will be created at the location shown in the Terminal window.
- Exit Terminal.

Definitely memory leak on the main battle.net client when playing any WoW client be it retail, PTR 11.1, classic, classic cataclysm.
Everytime I click play or open the battle.net client the game has to update. Everytime I run the game the battle.net client again goes straight to needing update.
It does this for all battlenet applications in fact for Warcraft III, heroes of the storm, diablo 3 and starcraft 2.
I was playing diablo 4 smooth via crossover but even that’s completely done now as it just keeps asking to click update and the play button never comes up only ever update.
I’ll try to get some logs going for you joy thanks for sending this up the chain.
I am still able to run WoW on it’s own without going through the battle.net client and running the .exe on its own and manually logging in.
Hey everyone,
I’ve been having the same exact issue as many of you with the Battle.net installer not launching on my new MacBook Pro M3 (Sequoia 15.2). I kept getting the BLZBNTAGT00000840 error, but after a lot of trial and error, it’s now working!
Here’s what I tried:
-
Installed Rosetta 2:
Ran softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license
to ensure x86-based apps could run on my Mac.
-
Tinkered with Wine and Wine Crossover:
Tried running the installer through Wine Crossover to create a Windows environment. Spent some time troubleshooting Wine prefixes and configurations, though it didn’t fully work.
-
Used Blizzard’s LogGoblin Tool as posted above:
Downloaded and ran LogGoblin to collect and archive Battle.net logs. (This may have cleared some temporary files or reset permissions.)
After all this, I deleted and re-downloaded the Battle.net installer, and it suddenly worked when I launched it as normal (no Wine).
I’m not sure what specifically fixed it—maybe Rosetta 2, LogGoblin, or even something Blizzard resolved on their end. But if you’re still stuck, try these steps. Hopefully, this helps
Good day everyone!
This should be fixed but if anyone is still having the issue please let us know here, thank you!
I recently became the happy owner of a Macbook Pro with a m4 Pro, it turns out that blizzard hasn’t even ported battle.net to M-series processors just everything still runs on intel through emulation, I won’t install rosetta, so as long as blizzard doesn’t give a s*it about its customers, so do I about blizzard games.
