I’ve encountered issue where Battle.net desktop app limit the download speed of updates to 20-40 KB/s.
I’ve tried multiple troubleshooting like making sure that download bandwidth limit in Battle.net app settings is disabled, deleting the Battle.net and Blizzard Entertainment folders in ProgramData folder, flushing DSN, and nothing resolved the issue.
I’ve also tried to check the internet connection and testing download speed and there was no issue with the internet connection and other apps had full speed for download as set by my ISP. The issue was only with Battle.net desktop app.
What I’ve noticed then, when tampering with download bandwidth in Battle.net settings, was that the download speed was suddenly going up and down.
Then when I left the download bandwidth enabled and filled the setting for both Latest Updates and Pre-release Content with values above the download speed set by the ISP, the update started to download at full speed, however, it went back to 30 KB/s again at 97%.
When I tried to repeat those steps and disable and re-enable the download bandwidth, setting it to values above the actual download speed limit set by my ISP it once again improved the speed and download the rest of the update.
The change of download speed raised immediately after enabling the download bandwidth with high values, thus it does not seems like it was just highly unstable servers from which the Battle.net downloads the update while perfectly aligned with my tampering with bandwidth option by coincidence.
What actually might cause that download speed is limited to 30 KB/s when the bandwidth limit option is disabled, and going back to 30 KB/s after while when setting the bandwidth to high values?
