Hello,
I’d like to report a bug in the Battle.net desktop app: it accepts controller input even when it is not the active window. For example, while I’m playing World of Warcraft with a controller, the Battle.net client in the background reacts to that input.
Steps to reproduce
- Connect a controller (in my case via a wireless dongle, XInput mode).
- Leave the Battle.net app running in the background.
- Launch WoW (or any other game) and use the controller in the game.
Actual behavior
The Battle.net app processes the controller input from the background. It navigates through menus, changes focus and triggers button clicks. Other users report it randomly opening the social window or the store, and even starting calls to friends. This could also lead to accidental purchases.
Expected behavior
The client should ignore controller input unless it is the active, focused window.
My setup
- Controller: 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless (dongle, XInput mode)
- OS: Windows 11
- Battle.net version: 2.53.4.17896

- This has been reported by several users since March 2026 without any response from Blizzard: titled “Unexplained Desktop App Input” (cannot post links here)
- I’ve opened a support ticket (EU106452799). Support told me they can’t forward it to the developers and pointed me to this forum, so I’m posting it here in the hope that the Battle.net team will see it.
- This is a bug in the Battle.net app itself, not in WoW. The suggested troubleshooting steps (restart, reinstall, DNS flush, firewall) don’t apply, since it isn’t a connection or installation problem.
- I’m happy to provide logs or more details if needed.
Could a developer or Blizzard representative please confirm that this has been received and whether a fix is planned?
