I’ve ExpressVPN with split tunneling running on the system. It has nothing to do with the battle.net app or any games, but I’m still presented with an error message when the VPN is active (Blizzard agent went to sleep. Attempting to wake it up… Oops!..).

exact same issue over here man. I just Googled it and it looks like someone was having this issue back in 2017… still hasn’t been fixed.
I’ve only got ExpressVPN split tunneling with Chrome & torrent applications too.

VPN’s are not supported by Bliz, so unfortunately it’s not something that will ever be addressed. VPNs are a “use at your own risk” thus any issues encountered fall on the user to resolve.
Only thing I can think of is to launch b-net than launch game than launch split tunneling
