I…must of missed the concept art…any chance you could link that? I mean I recall people were putting the arbiter’s clothes on him saying it looked like they used to be two halves of a whole…and well they were right just not how they thought things would work.

They did that already. It’s called Diablo 3. It didn’t do very well… though the spooky death angel did a pretty good job salvaging it. Kinda like Shadowlands except, yknow, good. Bizarro Shadowlands featuring Bizarro Jailer, one might say.
I think since Cataclysm the only main villain that hasn’t felt overly cartoon to me has been Garrosh. But yeah, the Jailer is basically just another one. Him and his dumb nipples.
I wouldn’t call Zovaal cartoony, he is absolutely unimposing and not particularly compelling or interesting.
Speaking of mustache twirling levels of cartoony though, gotta say- don’t miss Nathanos.
Honestly he’s worse than Skeletor. At least Skeletor is obvious evil that is chasing the thing he thinks is the issue. He’s too blinded to realize he’s a fool.
The jailer:
- Has no clear motivation, why does he want what he wants?
- We have no clear motivation to stop him, why do we care?
- What did he tell sylvanas and the forsworn? Blizz keeps talking about this. But what was said?
- He has no personality… zip zero nada
- He’s had less useful screen time effectively than Baine… who seems to have completely disappeared, why wasn’t he helping in SoD?
So yeah the Jailer is a Villain of the week. He should have been the sort of villain you build up for a long time. But instead we get:
Surprise!!! New baddy!
Which is just garbage. Honestly the person that thought this narrative was OK, their boss, and their bosses boss should all be fired with prejudice and for cause.

I’unno. Cartoon villains often have more personality than Zovaal.
Maybe not dignity, but when I say “Skeletor” or “Cobra Commander” or even “The Shredder” you know who I’m talking about. You also know they couldn’t really be replaced with a formless black cloud called “the Darkness” and nothing would change.
Can we really say that about Zovaal? …
I feel like Dudly Doright would have had this handled by now. Beat up the bad guy (Zovaal) and rescued the damsel (Anduin) then rode off into the sunset.
He is a Mountie, so that would fit.

Zovaal isn’t worthy of a twirly mustache. Snidely Whiplash has more depth than the puddle that is Zovaal.
I just imagine this in my best H. Jon Benjamin voice, ala Archer or more specifically as Dr. Orpheus Dark Mentor in the Venture Bros. “Ok, won’t serve. That’s, shall we say, unfortunate. But don’t say I never gave you anything.” Soul chinks to floor. “Later.”

Naw. He is more Disney villain. Big, bad, one dimensional and beaten by the little guy through the power of love and friendship.
He has a hole where his heart should be. I assumed he was like Dr. Seuss gone bald pretty much.
Watch out for oribos around christmas time, just sayin, those people look mighty small to him.
