In my experience the LGBTQ community has been pretty forgiving to people who are willing to say “my bad” and sincerely try to learn how to do better.

Alright, then you must regard every. Single. Straight romance featured in this game, minor or major, as poor writing. And not just due to specific elements, but because it focuses on straightness. Because this oddly did not become an issue until an honest to goodness m/m relationship was put into the game.
