I forgot and want to add that we also know that resurrection rituals and such can work for other wild gods as we literally do it in mount hyjal in cata. Which always felt pretty wrong to me, they died fighting the legion and helping the night elves 10k years ago, and the night elves didn’t resurrect them until they needed help against Ragnaros and the twilight hammer.
The night warrior ritual also includes sacrifice as we see Tyrande offering an orc head to Elune. Also some cool old lore about how the ancient night elves used to sacrifice the flesh of their enemies in one of the temples there into this big brazier to Elune in return for boons, and at another place offer their enemies weapons.
So we’ve seen it works for other gods, just for some reason such worship does not seem to be popular anymore which I assume is because the night elves see it as primitive troll ways or something.
Sorry, just a stupid name for Xal’atath
Baeblade/Babe’atath/Knaifu has always been a running joke in the Priest community since Legion.
i thought it was a Youtuber for a second I’m such a nerd
To be fair, Xal’atath could definitely start a Warcraft Lore Youtube channel
I’d watch it.
If Mueh’zala has the power to elevate a mortal soul to Loahood, perhaps all Loa and Wild Gods begin their cycle of rebirth in Ardenweald. A mortal soul that at some point impresses one of the Ardenweald pantheon, dies, is shuffled into Ardenweald, and from there Mueh’zala or someone else begins the process of elevating them. Once elevated, they get recycled back into the living world as a Wild God/Loa.
Since Wild Gods get recycled, the process to make them has probably been used very sparingly since the first batch was made at beginning of time. With the drought leading to the permanent end of many Wild Gods, Ardenweald will need to start up the process of making new Wild Gods enmasse once again to replace all the ones that were lost.
At least it’s possible that they were going in this direction before Shadowlands got a bad reception due to all the changes to the lore it brought.
In the current lore, it is said that the wild gods are manifestations of life energies and borne of the planet. So I’d put them almost in the elemental category since elementals are inherent to planets, then wild gods should be inherent to planets with life.
We also have a first-hand account of how a wild god experienced their early life, Ashamane was almost eaten by wolves as a cub but managed to survive, however as time went by she grew and at one point she realized she had grown more powerful and larger than any other panther and that no wolf dared to hunt her anymore. She saw generations of wildlife pass before her. And she saw other powerful animals like her, other wild gods.
Then on Azeroth the wild gods are also tied to the emerald dream by Freya, which didn’t happen on other worlds.
We’ve never seen a mortal turn into a wild god, although we now have Vol’jin, he was given what remained of a wild god and put into a wild seed, something usually only done for wild gods. So who knows if he will actually become something like one now.
Even the Winter Queen remarks that she herself isn’t sure what is going to come out of the wild seed once vol’jin is done going whatever rebirth he’s going through right now. He could be something we never seen before
