Your Top 3 and Bottom 3 raid bosses?

Best:

  1. HC Durumu the Forgotten. unbeatable for me
  2. HC Ragnaros (Firelands). this fight set the stage for modern encounter design I feel like and we killed it only in the Dragon Soul patch with my guild. what an amazing memory
  3. Muru in Sunwell. Because I was a teenager and the nerdscreams at the end still ping-pong in my skull

Worst:

Spine of Deathwing…
Sha of Fear HC (20 min monotonous slugfest)
Stone Legion Generals (…)

Halondrus Mythic: (Pre hot potato nerf) - This was an incredible fight start to finish that married group coordination and personal responsibility without necessarily overloading either, it also had an incredible amount of spectacle.

Nexus Princess Mythic: Bosses that incorporate geometry and symmetry feel incredibly satisfying to execute properly and this boss was the epitome of that feeling. Heroic was “ok” but mythic really made it clear how this fight was made to be played.

Blackhand Mythic: Simply put the best end boss blizzard ever made.

Worst:

Eonar: Damage stops, gauntlets, finnicky gimmicks. Terrible.

Kel’Thuzad (Sanctum): Damage stops galore, extremely finnicky and functionally played nothing like I assume anyone who made it envisioned.

Sun king: Damage stops, no real mechanics, generally just chaos and very boring to progress as Shadow Priest.

Oh he definitely is. :smirk:

For me

Fyrakk: Could very well be Stockholm syndrome but I found the mechs here very cool. First boss that I did mythic in the season after.

Razageth: Enjoyable fight design. Liked the platform hopping.

Sire D: Build up and fight design. Critical timing on both P1 and P2 felt like a sweet way to designing a fight (letting everyone lose the correct amount of stacks and using correct movement speed tech).

Pondering the bad ones will post it later.

Are we talking about mechanics, flavor, or a combination of everything? Vexie’s entrance in the current raid is one of my favorites and is entertaining, but it’s probably not one of my best boss fights overall.

I’m just going to wing it and go with whatever comes up in my mind first.

As far as worst bosses go:
Durumu because the poison fog was just implemented poorly and was a wipe fest for a lot of groups.
TK Kael’thas because having to listen to that monologue every pull during progression was awful and the weapon swapping mechanic was tedious.
Spine of Deathwing because that was rough in 10 man sometimes.
Honorable mentions: Any fight like Ultraxion that you can’t speed up when you overgeared it.

Best boss fights:
Denathrius because the voice acting and presentation for him were great.
XT because I enjoy the voice acting and Lil’XT was my first Blizzard store purchase.
Mimiron because the firefighter achievement was crazy but fun.

I wish I was a raider in Sepulcher. The last “vast” raid and it seemed to have everything. Just watched Halondrus first kill and this boss is end-boss difficulty level right?

You choose. Just a personal feeling/experience you had is what I based my list on.

  1. Lich King - An amazing fight for the time. Easily the most memorable BBEG in wow. Nostalgia does a lot of heavy lifting on this one for me (common theme incoming)
  2. HM General Vezax - The attrition boss. Playing this as a DK tank was so satisfying. I enjoyed this fight even more than Yogg.
  3. Thaddius- Laughably simple in today’s world, this one was super fun at the time (Vanilla). So much ribbing in vent about “Which way is Left, Norm!?”

Honorary mention: Rhyolith. This was super fun to Prog on too for similar reasons, but it was Mumble by then.

Bottom:
Anything since I came back in BFA.

But if I had to pick:

  1. Tindral — I don’t think bosses like this should exist. Spend 25 pulls progging the weak aura config. Killed many guilds (mine included, one of my subs will be here to remind me soon).
  2. Echo of Neltharion — this one ended up in a good spot, but it was another weak aura boss at first. By the end of the tier, you had enough room and time to just eyeball it, but before then, damn.
  3. Kurog — not a particularly hard boss, but I kind of hated tanking it because you had to have him cross a line at exactly some energy level to skip a mechanic, and you could do it exactly the same every time and 1 out of like every 5-7 times he would just stutter step and miss time it.

I’d say halondrus mechanically could have been a low difficulty end boss, but the tuning at RWF level pushed it up a few notches. We killed it around 130 or so, so before any nerfs but with more gear than the RWF kills which reduced the margins enough to make it feel reasonable.

Tindral is what I like to call a “Finger pointer” boss, in that you’d often wipe and know which mechanic it was but not who caused it. In less focused / level headed guilds this can cause a lot of accusations and resentment, as well as the very real possibility whoever messed up never actually learns from their mistake because they don’t know it was them.

I don’t think WoW does itself any favours by having finger pointer bosses. If something goes wrong it should not require a diagnostic replay to work out what / who caused it.

Best: Fights that are simple and straight forward. I like fights with very little coordination required. Pug friendly fights. Not always “patchwork” style like a stand there and spank it, but simple enough you don’t need voice chat call outs or a whole list of assignments for mechanics. And also ones that aren’t too RNG.

Worse: Anything that’s awful in pugs/for coordination. Fatescribe for example.

And also, anything TOO long…like Sylvanas, Razageth etc. The hard fights that are punishing but also long and when you wipe at the end it just feels awful

I was going to make a joke about that but I couldn’t think of one that was funny lol

I like your transmog!

Reminds me that Nymue didn’t record who’s soaking either.

Yes but nymue wasn’t over in an instant and the mistakes instead kind of accumulated into a root cause you could diagnose and work to improve.

Tindral the raid just exploded and short of VAR replay nobody knew why.

Top 3:

Garrosh Hellscream: "Fight scream how Orc Warcheif fight sure Old god was twist but sitll it was fight burn in my memory I enjoy.

2nd: Nazgrim was like how class fight should go as warrior go form arm, fury and prot, As well address the adds as Kor’korn.

3rd: "One arm Bandit I Like casino like theme boss much like How Enjoy Fighting oogie boogie in KH1 It be better if his boss room have wheel of forunte roulate spin effect of RNG deglore, and Slot dose true Slot machine come up with 3 slot pick then 2.

Bottoms

Most hated: Raszageth the Storm-Eater… Fighting stupid flying rat Fight was pain in Butt folk flying off and not all good time and My god it was golfed bloated fight Never do that again.

Scalecommander Sarkareth: "It would been fine if Sarkarteth get insta kill by something of true evil in Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible that Case the earth warder fall ,what we got was Emogit far cry of “I want power, all of it case daddy did not love me enough” God this was phatic fight and pain in rear end fight… glad it was over, I love raid but hate end boss… the echo should been Idea end boss then sorry eases of “Villian.” Sarakareth was marry sue of Villian I glad he got kill off, but I wish his Death was spit on

BFA Lady Jaina Proudmoore… this one… this one sting hard not only felt like Aliance wing there dong at us they get kill so many, It would been fair if we take her down along with the king then it prove there no winner in war but again BFA was horrible time for all and Battle of Dazar’alor just leave scars for every one that suffer in BFA.

I’m not sure I can do a definitive top and bottom 3, but near the top:
(All mythic)
Denathrius, Gul’Dan, Halondrus, Nexus Princess, Sludgefist

Near the bottom:
(hardest difficulty)
Spine, Lootship, SLG, Azshara, Hellfire Assault, Sindragosa.

Comments on some other fights mentioned:
LK (and maybe Putricide) was certainly the fights that carried all of ICC, but he wasn’t S-tier.

Vezax HM sucked for farm, since you’d often spend most of the fight AFK waiting for the add to spawn.

Firelands heroic Ragnaros looses points for how much RNG spawn placements could impact the difficulty of P4, which started 10 min into the fight.

Sylvanas would have been a better fight if they just deleted P2 and the first Intermission.

Echo of Neltharion Mythic was probably the worst Weakaura boss since Queen Azshara, and it didn’t have to be. All they had to do was have breaking a wall only do 1/3 of the damage it did on Mythic, and the entire weakaura setup goes out the window as unnecessary.

I know there are guides and videos and stuff but can you summarize Tindral to me as TLDR-ly as possible and what makes this boss so notorious? I like personal summaries.

You are an evil person.
