Blizzard is going to keep firing people instead of taking salary cuts, until they’re emaciated to the point of having nothing left, at which point they’ll go “Wow we kind of messed up here”, when they turn things around and then do this again in 8 years or so.
I mean they’ve fired close to like 500 now, since BfA launched, but none of the people fired are responsible for this mess. Not a good look, guys.
At some point they’ve probably laid off more than 10 at a time. I’ve never heard of them doing what would be considered a “mass” layoff until BfA. Legion did great and they ripped their shirts off and started screaming “I CAN NEVER DIE!” and it seems like they’re gonna ride that high until Ion and Alex are sitting in an empty office building, burning the servers for warmth. Doing pretend Q and As for imaginary watchers, assuring them that WoW is stronger than ever, and their complaints are invalid.
Given how long some MMOs that were created long before WoW and never had a tiny fraction of the player base held on this feels a bit silly.
WoW is still making a ton of money and Blizzard still has some of the strongest IPs in the market, even if they aren’t making the most of some of them.
Also the stock market is fixated on growth. Being punished for not delivering growth is a long way from bankruptcy.
Actiblizzard is being investigated for multiple cases of fraud, they’re firing people left and right (they’ve cut close to 500 since BfA launched), and they’re hemorrhaging subscriptions.
None of that means that it’s over, but what really is silly is pretending nothing is going wrong, and concern over all these facts is dismissable paranoia.
it doesn’t help that about 5 people at the highest levels of the company are jumping off the sinking ship, and yet through all this Activision is still paying out more money to its executives
Diablo (one of those IPs you mentioned) has gotten so bad that a former dev got on twitter and said he was embarrassed on their behalf.
Diablo: Immortal was hyped up as an actual new installment to the series, and then they didn’t understand why they were literally booed at Blizzcon when announcing it was F2P mobile title with a cash shop.
They’ve gone through 2 CFOs since BfA launched, and changed presidents.
Things are not good. Pretending they are doesn’t help anyone.
Giving Diablo Immortal major billing at Blizzcon was a huge public relations gaffe when it’s just a quick cash garb largely designed to build the brand in Asia while they work on the next major installation.
That’s a long way from bankruptcy.
Are Ion’s statements largely disconnected form reality? Sure.
If you think WoW will be closing down in less than a year then I 100% think you are being paranoid/delusional.
You’re being far more dramatic than me. I’m being vague, because I’m not the CEO of Blizzard. You want specifics? Don’t have 'em. Nobody but like 20 people would.
I think you’d argue with me if I complimented you, to be frank. It’s all I’ve ever seen you do. Not ad hominem-ing. Just an honest observation.
given how the rest of their titles are being treated currently it’s unlikely there is a major installation coming for a while, this is Activision we’re talking about
this is the company that’s second only to EA in terms of shady business practices and greed in the game industry
