Name and shame rules don’t apply in-game, only on the forums. You can call people out in-game for bad behavior. If they report you, believe me, you’re not going to be facing consequences. It’s much more likely the ninja will have multiple reports.
It seems that some people (I am not pointing fingers at anyone in particular) are already aware that their behavior will almost certainly be “less than desirable” by the standards of those who possess a classic mindset and who desire a truer classic experience.
I’m not surprised that people with the kind of “me, me, me” mindset so common in retail and who see all those other players as nothing but obstacles in their way would be looking for any means to avoid the consequences for their behavior.
If by “nullified”, you mean Blizzard once again broke their word and proved that they could not be trusted to honor their word, then you would be correct.
That is the point, though.
Blizzard has already said one thing regarding sharding in classic and then gone and done the exact opposite with the demo, and made the statement that they are “considering” using sharding in Classic, despite having said that sharding would not be part of classic.
Yet, people want us to blindly take as Gospel that sharding will only be used in the starting areas and only for a brief time at launch. When Blizzard’s history shows that they CANNOT be trusted to honor their word, why should anyone trust that suddenly this time they will actually honor their word?

Offering players who have deservedly earned a spot on their server’s blacklist a way to pay to avoid the consequences of their actions?
I certainly hope not.
If Johnny or Suzy deservedly earn a spot on that server blacklist because they cannot behave in a mature, respectful and responsible manner, then they can deal with consequences of his behavior, even if that means they feel they have to start fresh on a new server.
How about 6 months down the road when the AQ gates open? If they use sharding at that time, will they have “held true to their word”?
If they shard at any point beyond that “brief time at launch” or beyond “the starting areas”, they most certainly will not have “held true to their word”.
My point was that you should read a few posts prior to responding so that you do not inadvertently blurt out a hot take with no context. But by all means, do move on if you like.
1, fear of sharding is over rated. IF they sharded at the level of BfA, sure. That’s not required so I’ll hold out till Blizzard states how many people would be in each shard.
2, first reread 1 and apply it to AQ gates opening. A sharding of 500 is hardly a concern.
3, the event will be over and we are back to my point.
More accurately, at least on Stormreaver, it made it harder for the d-bags to get invited to groups, no matter what class or how well they played that class.
and all that articles says is that they acknowledge that cross-server realms and different [server] sharding were not part of Classic and that they know it is something we do not want, it does not say “we will not use them”
absolutely great point. It’s not up to Blizzard to mount an entire investigation to find out who’s in the wrong. They should sit back and let us all settle it ourselves
Fear of sharding is NOT overrated. Sharding is nothing but an artificial means of splitting and dividing the community in order to cater to those with that “ME, ME, ME” instant (figure of speech, not literally instant) gratification, convenience oriented mindset that is so prevalent in retail. How many are in each shard in irrelevant, as the community WILL be divided. When Johnny can be standing in the exact same co-ordinates as two dozen other players, yet see no other players on his screen, that is a problem.
IF Blizzard gets a toe in the door with sharding, claiming that sharding will be used ONLY in the starting areas, and ONLY for a brief time at launch, then using sharding at any other time or in any other area (no matter what the population of each of those shards is) is a clear violation of their word. They will once again have broken their word and shown that they CANNOT be trusted.
It makes no difference if the use of sharding is reduced after they have broken their word. They can’t just say that “we know it may seem to some that we broke our word when we used sharding in an area other than the starting areas at time well after launch, but we’re not using sharding now, so we actually kept our word.”
