No they aren’t.
Unholy has a bunch of spells that don’t belong to their spec as they were taken from the necromancer.
Necromancers also wear CLOTH.
Necromancers raise/communicate with the dead and use death magic… what they wear doesn’t define their definition.
A dk is a necromancer…
No amount of mental gymnastics will change that. They might not be the perfect version of what you expect one to be, but that doesn’t make them any less of one.
Not all necros wear dresses.

if you mixed unh and demo into one class it would be a necromancer. i don’t know if the warlocks on the forums have it in them to take it that way again though. XD

Unholy should never have been about summoning undead in the first place. Controlling one and empowering it? Sure. But summoning undead? At best DKs were able to animate the dead in WC3 and that’s what they were focused around.
Talking to dead? Sure. Mass control over it? Nah. A necromancer can do that infinitely better than it.

Asking the hard questions… this one won’t see the light of day. It will simply duck out the back during the start of the Q&A.
They haven’t answered this in years, why would anyone waste their 1 question to a panel of devs on something like that? Also, you have high elf-compatibles already. Not to mention the progenitor race of elves.

A DK may be a necromancer in the technical sense of the word but they definitely don’t fill the fantasy of a necromancer. At least not well. It has nothing to do with armor type either. There is a somewhat comparable example in Dungeons and Dragons. Clerics and Paladins are very similar and can even fulfill similar roles. You can even have a cleric in heavy armor and warhammer right up in everyone’s business. Yet these two classes are distinct even though they have overlapping themes.
Necromancers can easily be made distinct from Death Knights and Warlocks. Even if there are similar themes used. I get not wanting necromancers but the idea of “But Unholy DKs are Necromancers!” is not a good argument until Unholy DKs better fulfill the Necromancer fantasy.

Re Legiondaries, Azerite Vendor, RNG
Legendaries in Legion were great. They provided huge leaps of power and their effects were instantly noticed by most players. The issue people had with them was how they were acquired through RNG. Alot of people had a great time at the end of Legion when they could buy their BIS Legiondary.
In BFA people had big issues with Azerite RNG until you added the Azeritr Vendor. Then alot of the complaints died down because we now had a way to aquire the azeritr parts we want. The only complaints that stayed was the amount of time it took to buy a specific piece of Azerite. As the general purchase still yielded a RNG Azerite Piece.
I wish we had a Azerite Vendor type system early on in Legion.
What are the devs plans for the 9.0 Legendary system and how will they control RNG?
Also any plans for a PVP vendor?
Are we getting player housing in the next expansion?
