Your method of farming gold in Vanilla

make full contingent of alts. train each one in 2 profs unique to them/their race/their class. level each character and swap required items between them that other alts need for their profs. saves alot of money expenditure on buying items from ah, particularly as you get into items that need what other profs do.

takes alot longer but by the time its done, will have a bunch of high level alts with decently leveled professions for less cost than if i focused one and then later, another one. etc

learned this method before cross server stuff, while on an extremely low pop horde server, that had an ah with nothing on it. realized i could just make the stuff myself, back and forth between characters with diff professions

I always used to make a packet selling milk that you could buy a few feet away at the inn during the Christmas event - treats for Greatfather Winter. lol

I'm not telling you! ;P

good call!
I've never been big on "farming" gold. I just kinda let it come as I play.

I remember getting a lot of gold selling those Righteous Orbs from Strat on the AH. Those went for about 50G a pop on my server, which was a good amount of gold back then.

I also started selling off Argent Dawn rep items once I hit exalted myself and didn't need them anymore. There was always a demand for those, and they were fairly easy to come by.

If you really wanted to farm, I imagine the best thing you could do was have alts, level up all the professions, and sell stuff. I feel like mining could be pretty profitable in the later game.
I'll be a mage first, herbing/skinning to 60. I'll drop skinning and pick up enchanting. I'll be able to AOE pull lower level dungeons for mats at 60 to DE.

After that, I'll farm honor and buy !@#$ty blue cuffs for DE repeatedly for large brilliant shards.

JK, I'll hit 60, then level a shammy. Hit 60 and stop playing till TBC hits.

No one will have gold so proffesions will be useless as no one will be able to purchase !@#$ at the start. So enjoy the mob farm you filthy hipsters

I'm wondering if hunters will be able to solo DM North again...

I honestly hope not. Same with mages farming ZG crocs. I hope they're both off the table.

Same with mages/warlocks/priests/paladins farming DME flowers. Same with rogues farming Dark Iron/pickpocketing in BRD. Same with Maraudon solofarm, maybe even ZF/SM..? A lot of things to remove, don't you think?

Probably all those farm ways could be nerfed a bit, so they're still ok but not as OP.

I love this method.

"A penny saved is a penny earned," WoW-style.

I'll be doing something similar. It might not be the fastest method of gaining wealth, but it is my preferred method. And I have no issues with farming mats for hours. I'll even go into lower level areas to farm mats if I think the auction house is low in those materials.
I'm going to operate a hot dog stand between Lion's Pride Inn and the lake.

Well one of them involves a pathing exploit and safe spotting. So it should be fixed.
Especially considering its a higher level dungeon.
The rest the drops could be nerfed a bit.
un'goro power gem consumables, I would sell them to vendor to get enough gold for a mount.

plus while you're leveling, you run into treasure chests with items, like leather, stones, herbs, cloth, ore. it's alot of mailing back and forth, but if you know the professions really well, you'll know immediately who needs what.

level first one to 10. log off (in an inn!). level next to 10. log off. etc. that way they're always in the right level bracket for each other's prof drops.

make at least one character of the opposite faction for neutral auction house stuff, to get those extra shiny bits that are normally only available to the other faction. example - red whelp gloves leatherworking pattern (sold by a dwarf vendor in wetlands)
No idea what I'll do to make gold. Probably fish: alchemists need Firefin Snapper and Oily Blackmouth.

Herbalists shouldn't forget earthroot -- druids need it for a quest.

This is probably the best/easiest method long term, but there should be a big bold warning about the startup costs...

1. You need level 35 for the maximum tier of professions. This is roughly 2 days of time /played to achieve. During those 2 days, you could instead be running -ANY- class through a farm spot of choice or gathering profession @ around 50g/hour.... Meaning your opportunity cost to level your new alt-gold bot is ~2,400g

2. Now you have the profession itself to level. Well roll the time investment into the 2 days played for that for simplicity's sake... but leveling professions also has a gold component for alts, in buying the mats to power level. Without knowing for certain, I'd wager the intended profession bot toon is going to be Tailor (For bags) or Alchemist (Transmutes)... (gathering profs would require going out in the world, Blacksmith/Engi/LW all would require specific plans to be profiitable... and everyone should have a lvl 1 enchanter somewhere as a bank alt regardless, since DE didn't require any profession skill).... Alchemy was reportedly one of the cheaper ones so let's add another 300g getting that boosted. Now your opportunity cost is ~2,700g

3. Now let's assume your alt is doing some damn fine profession work and pulling in 100g a week just from your brief login + click buttons then logout method of "farming"...... Congrats, you still don't pull EVEN until just after 6 months of using it.

TL:DR.... This is a great method of generating stable, long term income... Once it get's going, it requires little to no real effort or time investment.... That being said, the introductory costs and initial time investments are MASSIVE as compared to other farming methods, and require significant patience before it really starts paying off/out. It's a great method for the very hard core or very alt-centric.... but for the average/casual player, this probably isn't a great idea.

So this is cute and all, but my question is where is the gold really coming from?

Professions are a great way to get money from the player economy, but how does the money get into the player economy in the first place?

Money comes into the player economy through: Questing, NPC loot, selling to vendors.

Money leaves the player economy through: Vendor purchases, training (class, weapon, riding), AH tax, repairs.

So all gold really comes from questing and killing stuff. "Making money" off AH is really just taking other people's questing/killing gold.

So who knows the most efficient ways to get gold from the system, not from other players?

DM Solo tbh. If no changes is happening, that's what ya get
I'm really curious if DM north will be soloable on official servers. On LH they have it disabled due to it being way too OP.
