Star Wars itself owes to Shakespeare. What I was really getting at was that Blizzard did two games in fairly short order where a main character gives up their humanity to change teams. I thought the SC1 version of these events were on a more, uh, psychological level? If you read in the backstory how the Confederacy creates Ghosts, there’s an obvious reason why so much time playing as Kerrigan is threatening/killing characters you’ve already played as (and may have an attachment to.)
Sylvanas may have had depth once but because a generic “wow she’s evil” by Cataclysm. I’m okay with everything they did with her post-Legion because it’s been a long time since then, and I’d rather they make her eventually act on her plans instead of just have an obvious scheme that isn’t put in motion yet for another ten years.
How was that information of the bombing presented? Like, was it just an objective narration, or was that info delivered from the voice of Garrosh himself? Because that sounds to me like Garrosh did a bad and then blamed the Alliance.
The Blue Bird is literally called ‘The Loa of Change’. And the zone is being set up as a Night Elf territory, so that’s just kind of to be expected. Also, in terms of ‘patch zones being alienating to some classes’, I feel like The Maw is thematically/aesthetically counter to the Emerald Dream though. But even then, it’s not like the Dragonflight xpac has been centered around the EmDm.
Or even going back less than a month ago, we had Zaralek Caverns- which did have quite a bit going on for it in terms of activities and unique/niche content, but it’s not really ‘thematically representative’ of every race/class. Also, I sort of wish that the 'Niffen weren’t the center-focus of the zone, since there really was quite a bit going on which felt briefly glossed in favor of doing activities like finding piles of Trash, smelling for Trash, and searching for Treashure to find rocks for a big hat. I know WoW has always had some comical silly stuff like that, but I personally think it would have been better for the 'niffen to have been incorporated into a slightly more broader organization. Idk, maybe they were good for adding more diversity to the World to reduce some of the inevitable repetitiveness.
I thought fossil fuels were a meme? Isn’t fuel made by processing agricultural products? I’m pretty sure plants like soybeans, palm trees, rubber trees, peat bogs, etc, produce oil which have compounds like benzenes, latex/plastics, that are used in pretty much everything in the modern world.
I personally am pretty skeptical of the whole ‘energy can’t be created or destroyed’ claim, and I don’t see why we can’t use energy to create more energy.
3+3=6. If you have 6, and take away a group of 3, you’ll be stuck with a group of 3.
But 3x3 (3+3+3)=9. If you have 9, and extract away a group of 3, you’ll be back at where you started with two groups of 3, or 3x3. and can continue doing this ad infinitum.
To me, the fact that anything exists at all is enough proof that something can be created from what seems like nothing.
My post kind of got off topic, but I think it’s kind of well established that the WoW universe operates under the assumption that there are ‘magical forces’ that don’t have literal translations to our world.
I mean, Q’onzu is a Loa by name but I would hardly consider them a representative of the Loa in general. Night Elves are also more than just Druids. (Also, that’s why it’s a ‘hot take’)
I agree with the hot take, though tbh, I think it’s more conventional wisdom by now. I’ve seen like three mog pieces I can use on a non-druid and druids already made out very good for transmog in SLands.
Darkfallen Night Elves aren’t that bad and I think as a concept are pretty cool and were an expected outcome from the events of the War of Thorns. I just wish they didn’t flip-flop so much on if they were Forsaken or Alliance aligned and used them to further define (or refresh our memories) on what it is like to be brought into Undeath.
I actually really like Delaryn Summermoon and have loved her character development so far. It was kind’ve a real-time re-telling of Sylvanas’ defense and fall in Quel’thalas.
Not sure if my unpopular opinions are a hot take or not, but here goes nothing.
I think that there needs to be a story about the Forsaken joining the Horde and the Night Elves joining the Alliance. While not as relevant to current lore it could be an interesting story.
My other potentially unpopular opinion is that we need more Stormwind characters in the story. If for no other reason than to flesh out the kingdoms story with something other than Anduin.
THIS THIS THIS. Blizzard is hell bent on forcing Stormwind on us but only want to give us the Wrynn family as characters. Why? They are arguably the worst part of Stormwind. Give us more interesting characters and stop focusing on the Wrynns, who as I mentioned should just die out at this point. They hold the story back in my honest opinion.
Night Elves in the Alliance and Forsaken in the Horde were a mistake from the beginning. If these two races HAD to be playable, they should’ve been swapped - Night Elves in the Horde and Forsaken in the Alliance.
The Faction War is overrated and should’ve ended with MOP.
Blizzard’s cast of superhero characters are overrated and the story would be better served if none of them were involved beyond handing out quests to the PC
It was a mistake to make Teldrassil. They should of made Nighthaven our capitol and put that time into expanding and fleshing out that zone.
Sylvanas should of been left dead after she impaled herself on ice crown. It was the culmination of her story with Arthas to see he was gone and she lacked any further drive. The Forsaken should of been lead then by a triumvirate of the Deathstalker Commander, Dark Ranger General, and Grand Executor.
Stormwind should of been left a burnt up ruin and Ironforge should of been the capital of the Alliance. The Forsaken should of been driven from Lordaron by humanity and set up Stratholme as their capital.
To induce tension in the alliance, it should of been divided into two power blocks, an “Eastern Alliance” centered in ironforge, and a “Western Alliance” centered in Theramore. The Horde, being smaller and weaker than the Alliance, plays off this internal tension to keep themselves safe.
Stormwind has so much potential. Cool little orders, interesting history with the defias, the house of nobles, but none of this is ever touched on, aside from the human heritage quest. It’s a shame they continue to let stormwind be so generic when it could be so much more.
The timeline situation as it was conceptualized during WoD was perfect. One reality, one Nether, One Legion - with “alternate” timelines being quantum ghosts that can only be temporarily made “real” - it’s fantastic. None of this “nothing you do matters because there are a billion billion yous out there” nonsense.
The fact that they spent a whole patch of DF rolling it all back and introducing a comics-style multiverse is terrible.
The Horde and Alliance should have both been broken up by now. They’re too big and too diverse, with too many diverging viewpoints and aesthetics.
The High Elves should have been killed off entirely by mana-starvation. The idea of the Blood Elves’ mana dependence being a real and difficult challenge for their society was totally undercut when Blizzard decided that actually you can just tough it out if you’re not a wuss. They kneecapped the Belves’ story to avoid taking anything away from the Alliance.
I honestly kinda hate that the Titan keepers literally just use Norse Gods’ names. Like they’re not even consistent with it - Loken is obviously based on Loki but at least they’re trying to differentiate it a little bit. Odyn is one letter off and it’s pronounced the same. Tyr is just… Tyr! They didn’t even try with that one! Same for Ra and such.
They need to kill off a damn Bronzebeard already. We’ve had two fakeouts already but they refuse to let any of them stay dead. I vote Brann crushed by one of those giant rolling rock traps.
The previous point was only half-joking. I kinda hate Brann Bronzebeard. Of all of the Alliance characters that horde players are constantly forced to follow around, he’s the one I find most irritating. The fact that he’s headlining the upcoming “Delves” feature is absolutely going to poison my perception of the entire concept.
Every major “villain kill” should be primarily attributed to one or more npcs, not the players. This is critical for worldbuilding: the history of Azeroth needs to be about specific heroes (and their troops/allies) fighting specific villains, not about faceless mobs of 10-25 generic goons fighting specific villains.
Jaina Proudmoore shouldn’t be looked as a crazy murder during the Purge of Dalaran while making the Blood Elves innocent when they were kind of not after breaking the neutral treatly.
Arthas Menethil should had been in Revendreth or Maldraxxus instead of being threw away in a poor man’s ending in Shadowlands.
Blood Elves should had stayed as the Fel Corrupted Magic Vampires instead of being Light Elves.
Orcish Clans like Shadowmoon, Thunderlord, and Laughing Skull should not be abandoned or destroyed. Specially Thunderlords and Shadowmoons since I liked the Shadowmoon Clans and Thunderlords alot.
The Burning of Teldrassil shouldn’t had the Night Elves be killed and instead should had the Draenei, Void Elves, and etc to help them since the Draenei were right there near Teldrassil as allies with the Ship and stuff.
Void Elves should had been void corrupted High Elves lost in Outlands and was rescue by Alleria and the Player instead of random blood elves with less lore.
Garrosh Hellscream being killed and turned to dust was kind of sad and pretty much a lore breaking thing.
I miss the Faction Wars than the Neutral Peace Story Writing now in days.
The Cataclysm should had the Kirin Tor helping out instead of just Thrall and the Earthern Ring and just Shamans against the Elements. Since Mages also have Elements of Fire and Water too.
You do know that Highkeeper Ra is not based of the Egyptain Sun God right? That is Rajh from Halls of Origination. I have no idea why wowpedia says that he [Ra-den] is.
Highkeeper Ra is most likely based off the God, Raijin. Given their similar power sets and the aesthetic of MoP in general.
