When people come to realize what our nature is, general discord for anything, not only WoW, might become more managable. People all through this thread are defending their experience in WoW Classic, because if they did not then they would have to contend with the fact that maybe they were wrong, or partially wrong.
That being said, WoW classic literally brings nothing to the table that retail does not, other than itâs not retail. The game is no more difficult, if anything incredibly easy and less complex. Everything in the game world is extremely time consuming, but that comes at the caveat that you feel slightly more accomplished for getting something done. People boost because while they harped on the social aspect of group finding, it is simply more efficient to hand some 25 g and sit on a rock without having to conversate or really do anything. In terms of grouping, itâs just simply more difficult to put groups together on average, UNLESS you have a strong base of people that are immediately ready to hop into something with you. Pug runs are just that, usually as antisocial as a dungeon finder group, but with a much smaller resource pool to grab from. There is some solace in the reduction of complexity from classic to retail and it is a bit refreshing. It is also refreshing that while there are definitely BiS lists, there are tons of alternatives which makes a small loot pool (2-3 items per boss for 40 players) feel not so tedious. This goes to the numero uno, king pin, big daddy difference, and the reason why I play classic over retail. PERSONAL LOOT. The fact that blizzard put restrictions and a extremely flawed system on loot is what makes Retail vomit worthy. Then it pin it on superifical complaints of âThis helps everyone get a piece of lootâ or ânow loot wont be abusedâ is garbage. Somehow classic running tons and tons of soft reserve, GDKP groups seem to have minimal loot issues. Iâm not saying none, Iâm saying very little. Everyone can always find a problem.
Now back to our nature - We, as a collective, continuously need âmoreâ. We didnât want classic, we wanted the feeling that classic brought, and for many of us it definitely scratched that itch some. I can say how many times I rode through the barrens and the feeling that washed over me. I donât just mean that base level nostalgia of âwow this is so coolâ, but as a 38 year old gamer that began online gaming with MuDs, it was more like "Wow this right here was, is, and will always be a pinnacle of gaming, and also reflective of times outside of the game in my life. Moving forward we always wanted more, and many of those expansions entered new systems that were amazing for many, and not so much for others. This was also the time the word âWow killerâ was used on every new MMO that came out. People wanted to feel more, similar to a drug user wanting to feel higher, or move closer to the edge. Suffice it to say out appetite can be quite insatiable at times. I donât think weâre going to see that new, great expansive world of new engineering we want so badâŚwhy? Because itâs just not profitable in todayâs gaming world. Mobile/MOBA games are the future and it will continue to drift away from the resource hogs that massive MMOâs are, because people want to feel good and they want it instantly. That wonât change no matter how much you deny it.
Just my thoughts after 25 years of gaming.
