Brojangles, books have been wow lore forever now
You get the expansions story, cuz that’s what you bought
Side stories are extra and not needed, but can be a good read

But lore is a main feature of the expac. it’s one of the reasons why you buy it. Therefore you should get it all in game. It’s a important part of the game.
I think the reason why is because of the formats (pretty sure this was referenced in a Q&A at some point) but the short form story format of the game versus a longer story format of a novel, lends them better to explaining lore. I can see both sides though, the game does have to flow speed wise.
You get the main lore. What’s going to be in that dragon book has no impact whatsoever on you playing the expansion and getting the lore of the expansion. It’s extended lore.
And I’ll bet that most of what’s going to be in that book is already stuff we learned, just compiled for collectors.
Thalyssra’s marriage wasn’t main lore. War of the Ancients wasn’t main lore. Thrall flitting about helter skelter on side missions wasn’t main lore. Maiev murdering Worgen off the side wasn’t main lore. Bwonsamdi’s little side problems weren’t main lore.
Main lore follows the main storyline. You get that in the game.
Extended lore they put in stories, books, comics and even children’s books to get them interested in reading and the story universe.
It’s marketing. It’s collections. It’s getting people’s kids interested in the fantasy universe. It’s extended lore for those who enjoy that sort of thing.
There is more to WoW than just WoW. It’s been part of the RTS. It’s been part of all different types of media. Having a universe extend out where it can’t in a game is a good thing. Not everything can be given in a video game that plays out like a movie. It’s why movie versions and even tv shows of novels are so truncated or aren’t good character development: because you can do more with the written word outside of those mediums. Same goes for video games.
If you don’t support it, don’t buy it. That’s your decision. No one is forcing you to make a purchase of something you don’t support.
It’ll all be digested and regurgitated on WoWWiki.
We know it’s going to be on WoWwiki, but it’s not the point.
I disagree the main feature in SL, was the jailer glorious nipple…
Honestly, that should have its own book.
It’s impossible to tell the entire story in a game without a crazy amount of dialogue and cutscenes. What should be included in the game is all the major plot points, while books, cinematics, and other secondary sources can provide more detail for those who want it.
It wasn’t a main feature, it was a main character XD
While true, but the wow development team don’t even try… and it seems. Some of the books are just an alternate timeline of what could have been compared To the in-game wow.
Well we’ll just have to agree to disagree on that…
When you watched Harry Potter or lord of the rings…
Were you mad that there was lore left out that you could only get by buying the book?
I’m quite sure the important parts of the books are put on the Wikis
I know that’s it’s going to be on WoWwiki, but not the point
What is your point then? Because I don’t see it, I’m sorry.
Glad people read
The point is, you shouldn’t even attempt to make people buy a book to learn more about the lore, when they have paid for the expac and sub.
If they wanted to extend the lore of a expac but couldn’t for some reason, make a free pdf.
First book came out in like 2001
Wow vanilla launched in 2004
The books aren’t based on wow
Wow is based on the books
Movies, tv shows, and games, will always be the abbreviated version.
Theres so little lore in the actual game it sucks.
FFXIV does - WITHOUT selling books.
When Shadows Rising was due to come out I finally talked myself into getting one of the books but then they put out an excerpt and it was like something that would have been rejected from my high school literary club magazine. Was kind of a bummer. I decided to stick to the abbreviated version.
It’s kindve just what happens when something is made from pre-existing lore.
There was already an entire universe of lore before wow ever launched.
Plenty of Warcraft games and books prior to 2004 when wow launched.
Wow is based on them, should they have added all of that into wow too for free?
Lately though the books come out after it comes out in-game. Which imo is good. If there was major lore spoilers in the books that come out before the game, I think people would be mad.
My s/o has the books but I prefer the people who cover them on YouTube personally. Easier to just listen and some people add graphics.
