I recently had squid ink pasta for the first time in my life and I was so blown away. I’m so used to just tomato based pasta but this was a totally different food experience!! :spaghetti:

Favorite recipes time!

Oven Fried Chicken Thighs: `https://www.thespruceeats.com/oven-fried-chicken-thighs-3058669
These have a nice crispy, panko breadcrumb crust, and the seasonings are easy to tweak. I like to add a dash of smoked paprika to the butter.

Spanish Chickpeas and Rice: https://www.budgetbytes.com/spanish-chickpeas-and-rice/
Paella-inspired, but a lot cheaper since there’s no saffron. And it’s vegan!

Italian Marinated Vegetables: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/italian-marinated-vegetables-recipe-1944129
It’s like salad, but without the lettuce!

Grilled Country Style Pork Ribs: https://www.chowhound.com/recipes/grilled-country-style-pork-ribs-30402
The spice rub crusts up real nice on the grill. I only use about a third of the salt, though.

So my job is basically travelling a lot and most of the time I am forced to just eat whatever is quick and available nearby and what I can eat while driving. Because of this, I have developed a ranking system for fast food. A friend asked me about it a while ago so I thought I would share it here.

10- Chicken places. KFC, Church’s, Chester’s, etc. Popeyes is like 9.5 because they at least have shrimp. I am too finicky to eat fried chicken off the bone, and I get really sick of chicken fingers because they’re all the same no matter where you get them. I am always disappointed if this is my option.

9- Hardees/Carl Jr. Their cheeseburgers are way too messy to eat with a beard and every time you bite into one, the other side poops all over your fingers. They have a ham and cheese that is ok I guess, but still no. Only if I have no choice.

8- Subway. I used to like Subway. I like subs in general. But apparently they are super easy to set up, because 99/100 truck stops in the country have one and I am just sick of them. There are only so many ways you can order there before you’ve had literally everything on the menu. And they never have soup which pisses me off. Subway soup is like McDonald’s ice cream machine. I’ve bought sandwiches at the gas station cooler over Subway sometimes when they’re my only choices just because it gets so old.

7- Burger King. There’s nothing wrong with Burger King per se- it’s just so basic. Their onion rings are good but only because of their sauce. If I have to eat at a Burger King, my reaction is pretty much, “well, at least it isn’t Subway again.”

6- McDonald’s. I like Big Macs and their chicken nuggets, but again, it gets old fast. You know, you’ve been there. Everyone’s been there. It’s technically food, but barely.

5- Arby’s. I know what you’re thinking. You aren’t wrong. But I just get the basic roast beef and it’s hard to mess that up. It isn’t really that they taste that great either- this will sound weird but I just like how it feels to bite into one more? I also think they are higher up because they are rarer for me, which is a trend in the top 4. Their mozz sticks are ok too.

4- Dairy Queen. DQ is mostly up here because they have ice cream and I like their M&M Blizzards. But their chicken sandwiches are also pretty good. I don’t really get burgers from them and they are rare enough that I don’t get -excited- exactly, but I do get “oh neat ice cream day.”

3- Taco Bell. Kirsy’s experience prompted this list, and while I do agree that it is barely food and absolutely garbage, I love Taco Bell. I hardly ever see any out here and I always get a steak quesadilla and the 2 chalupa combo. I know it’s bad for me. I don’t care. Live for now and don’t think about pulling over 3 hours later.

2- Wendy’s. Wendy’s has a special place in my heart. It kept me alive during college. Back then you could spend $5 and get 3 jr bacons, a baked potato, and a frosty. I went once at 1am but forgot my wallet. The drive thru girl spotted me because she knew I’d be back the next night. They have great cheeseburgers, though I always feel like an idiot ordering the Son of Baconator, so I just say the little one while looking at the floor. Their asiago chicken sandwich is also good, but expensive, and chili is easy to eat driving because you can drink it like a caveman. I love Wendy’s.

1- Whataburger. This is only in the Texas region, and never convenient to get to, but I will drive out of my way to go. I went there once on a spring break trip in college and it blew my mind. Now every time I go through Texas I always try to find one. I don’t even think there is anything special about them and it’s mostly the rarity. But every time I am super jazzed to get to go.

Disclaimer- this list isn’t all inclusive because there are many fast food places I don’t go to often enough to rate. I’ve heard good things about In-n-Out but have never had a chance to try. I tried Jack in the Box once in Cali but it was garbage except I thought it was neat you can get egg rolls as a side. There’s a place called Cookout in the Carolinas that lets you get cool sides and has 100 types of shakes, which is neat, but I always just get chocolate anyway so it’s wasted on me. Steak and Shake is ok but expensive and not really convenient for me. Del Tacos are ok in the Southwest, and it makes me laugh that their name is “Of the Taco.” Anyway there are lots of others but like I said, I just don’t eat there enough to list them.

I eat at nicer places too when I can. One of the neat things about my job is getting to try new stuff and you can find some great local places. The best tacos I ever had were from a van in a steel yard outside San Bernadino. I had Vietnamese at a strip mall in NY state, watched someone try a 72oz steak in under an hour at a great place in Amarillo (they didn’t make it), and some amazing crab rolls at a casino in Baltimore.

If I have some time but am lazy, I get super excited for truck stop buffets because it is much healthier than usual. I was never a salad guy but now I will see the billboards for a TA and PLAN for it. Also if I am in a strange town and want to go out, I will usually start at Applebees because I know what I am getting there, the wait staff will tell me the cool bars, and lots of times I end up there drinking with them. Especially if it was $1 drink month.

Anyway I was bored so I thought I would share. Feel free to disagree or add suggestions.

Summer is the best time for egg salad, prove me wrong.

Super easy, barely an inconvenience. Did The Wiggles name the song, ‘Egg Salad?’

Why would they name it ‘Egg Salad’ if they’re making a fruit salad?

Fruits are basically plant eggs, so you’ve proven nothing.

Well, it’s not a song about Egg Salad is my point. It’s a song about fruit salad, cuz fruit salad is tight.

They don’t even have kiwi in that salad, so the salad they made isn’t very tight.

Or, you know, pineapple.

While I do not disagree with you about egg salad being rad and that the fruit salad they made may in fact, be not tight, there is a song about fruit salad. This proves it is superior.

That’s nice and all but the ‘Fruit Salad’ song isn’t nearly as funky as the ‘Egg Salad’ one.

This is definitely funkadelic, my friend. As groovy as this jam is, there are but only 60 views and a measley 0 comments on this video. This provides us with the fact that nobody cares about egg salad or it’s radical tunes. I came to this conclusion simply by looking at the Wiggles video posted above. There is a skimpy 415,319 views and a wimpy 276 comments on that video alone.

Though, I must confess I am a large fan of the sitcom called Frasier. In the theme song for this show, he mentions tossed salad and scrambled eggs. If you were to simply swap these two phrases, he wouldn’t know what to do with these scrambled eggs and tossed salads. There are two of us in this debate, so we would remove two words. Your name has an S in it, so we would remove ‘scrambled’ and ‘tossed,’ which leaves us with eggs salads.

Wendy’s is great. It’s honestly the only fast food I specifically want, rather than just “eh let’s grab something”.

While not driving-friendly, they make the best salads. Just get whichever has stuff you like, they’re all good.

Wendy’s is my favorite fast food, too.

It’s funny, I never had it until a few years ago. My mom always refused to eat at Wendy’s because she once had an undercooked burger at one of their restaurants in Kentucky and one of her favorite pastimes was holding irrational grudges, so as a kid I just got into the habit of not considering it as an option.

Then I started getting a kick out of the lunatic they put in charge of their Twitter account. I’m not an idiot, I know corporate social media mascots being all sassy is a marketing tactic, but I figured hey, the entertainment is worth giving it a shot.

Damn if it isn’t just the best fast food burgers out there. Now I regret missing out as a young’un.

Damn now I want Wendy’s. Luckily the closest one is only like 11 minutes from my place. Might have to bug my brother or parents next time we decide on what’s for lunch/dinner.

Another neat deal is how much Dave Thomas did for adoptopn services before he died and how it carried over afterwards. I don’t know much about the man other than that, but it’s nice to know you are supporting a business that is doing something nice.
