100% agree. WoW needs to go back to its roots. Classes were so much better back then that’s where they should start fixing the game.
I feel similarly about BfA (not the best, not the worst), but I don’t understand what so many people had against WoD.
It had more CGI cut scenes than any other expansion, with a pretty cool story.
It was the expansion that introduced bonus objective quests and world quests which made leveling much faster and less boring and repetitive.
I mean I get that it is the cool thing to bash on WoD but I seriously don’t see the hate.
All I did in WoD was PvP. From my own personal experiences, it was the most detached I ever felt in any expansion. There wasn’t much for a casual like me to do except level alts, hang out in my garrison, and do more PvP.
I don’t feel burned by WoD, but thinking back on it, that’s all I ever did.
IF the old ways still work then classic will bring back lots of lost subs.
We’ll see, but Im betting it doesnt have a lot to do with what was, but more the business practices of Acticrap that wont change just because the make game changes.
There is nothing wrong with changes and innovation, but there needs to be a reason for them, not just because.
this people played WOW not MMOs which is why most just stopped some went to other types games or none at all.
other than Asherons Call LOTRO i never lasted a month on other MMOs myself
Everyone I knew who played mmorpg’s don’t anymore. People keep saying do this and it will bring players back to the height it was. The fact is the market just isn’t nearly as large anymore.
You’re ignoring that wotlk was ten years ago. People are going to stop playing. I contend if blizzard had kept wow the exact same from wotlk to now we wouldn’t be here now cus wow would really be dead.
Or maybe the things companies have been trying have been about GREED not improving the genre.
We just spent the better part of the last decade chasing fads like catering to the short attention span crafter/quester ganking sociopaths (Black Desert), turning MMO’s into glorified real money cosmetic gambling casinos (Elder Scrolls Online) and turning to browser app/cell phone gimicks because it is a cheap way to put out low-cost shallow garbage and play off people’s addiction to cash in on the short term while sabotaging the long-term integrity and investment in the MMO genre.
Companies have been to blame for the downfall of MMO’s with their short sighted YOLO thinking and their greed. The market is there. The willingness to think beyond the next quarterly statement has not been.
EDIT: Forgot to mention the thousands of kickstarter campaigns that exist solely to cash in on the YOLO money grab, milking people for “founders packs” and the like with no intention of running a successful long-term MMO, as evidenced by the fact NOT ONE kickstarter game has ever achieved lasting (or any) meaningful success.
All scams and endless excuses that serves only to further discredit the industry.
yeah but 9 million of them were gold farmers at net cafes.
OP,
WOW had 12 million at the start of WOTLK but by 3.1 had fallen to 10.75 million. WOTLK while good, was the beginning of WOW’s subscription decline.
They are also trying to make something new that might work.
But when they fail at it they need to revert.
Cough overwatch cough
The content drought killed everything for me above all else. At the beginning WOD was amazing. By the end of 6.2 and over a year of Taanan Jungle with absolutely zero updates…Ugh
Part of the reason for so many subs was because World of Warcraft is based on one of the best rts’s of all time. So it wasn’t just mmorpg players subbed.
Also speaking of Wrath, the Death Knight mount sounds are so nostalgic!
Now they have 2million
it tanked HARD at start of MOP
If a game peaked, it can only go down. No king rules forever.
Se what is happening with League of Legends right now, people are having the exact same talk “Riot should do this, Riot should do that, Riot is ruinning this game cattering to casuals” or something like that. The thing is, like it happened with every game that had massive succes, eventually it will lose playerbase. Right now Fortnite is massive, eventually people will lose interest and they will be having the exact same talk.
I am not saying BFA is good, they messed hard with the lack of novelty (and this IS important) and, for me, they focused on the wrong things going into the expansion. But Legion was amazing, probably better than WOTLK (aside from PvP).
You do realize people leave for a variety of reasons? Not just gameplay reasons. Not everyone is a addict that cant stop playing a videogame, or videogames in general. Seen many people come, and go over the years. Some came back for awhile only to go back to doing their normal life routines. Seriously doubt this game would of been able to hold that many subscribers even if they would stuck with those so called good ole days.
I remember when wrath was current, people were claiming it was terrible and was going to kill the game. People complained about every aspect of the expansion. Just like they so now.
Funny.
When I play a WotLK private server I’m hooked.
Why aRe YoU sTiLl SubBeD - low level PvP.
