Xena. Hercules wasn’t bad but the stories on Xena were better.

I liked both shows. But I remember Hercules being the better of the two shows. I mean, I’ve forgotten a lot of the plot by now. But I vaguely remember Xena having a clear stand-in for Jesus, making her pregnancy into the end of the gods, and I think she defeated the Roman Empire?
Hercules, despite being the one in myth who is half-god, somehow managed to feel more grounded even with its (probably close to similar) levels of insanity. Xena felt like it got a little too high on itself.
I firmly believe that you can’t judge art by the politics or crimes of the artist. (IE I still like the Cosby show, it’s a great show!)
So when I look at Hercules vs Xena, I think Hercules is the better show, even though Lucy Lawless is fantastic and Kevin Sorbo is a bit of an odd duck.
Notably Lucy Lawless is fund raising and matching whatever is made out of her own pocked for one of her old stunt double to get brain surgery. She’s also a member of the StarShip foundation, which does charity work to fund children’s healthcare in Auckland, she’s a member of the Ermet Aids foundation, etc etc. Lawless is just a great person.
Also as a sad side note the actor that played Aries, Kevin Smith, died at 38. He climbed up a prop when he was visiting a set and fell 3 stories to his death. Real tragedy, as I think he was a great actor for the setting.

As for the OP’s question, I think Xena was so-so but still clearly the better show.
