I dunno. If they were just responding to the meming I don’t think she would be a villain. More like an enigmatic Q type character, who occasionally shows up to taunt and flirt with us.
What would be the end results? Athlete’s foot?

arthas was the best villain
but now in 2024 i sort of has to move forward with the story and xal is a much bigger vilain / thrreat than arthas (arthas was only a puppet of lichh king / sargeras). xal is arguably the biggest villain and her truue identity is not yet fully revealed
TLDR: i think blizz storytelling does sway me to xal as the best villain to some degree even though my logic still with arthas
Lich King had that cool look and sick armor.
Plus Arthas was the best villain story that Blizzard made for Warcraft series.

We’ve known about Xal’atath for about —
8 YEARS
and counting now …
- Additionally, when Arthas flopped down to the Maw — He got nommed with ease & ultimately turned into a pathetic fart-cloud then went poof
erasing him out of existence.
- Xal’atath on the other hand, despite being apparently felled numerous times – has risen back up countless times.
As much as the Arthas fan-boys don’t like it … I’m Gonna go with Xal’atath on this one. 
Don’t get me wrong, I loved Arthas – However as it stands:
- Pre-SL Arthas was the greatest of all time

Post-SL Arthas is a clown though 
So yeah, upon the notes as per above – Xal’atath wins by the lore standards, easily.
From a personal take though, I’m gonna have to go with Xal’atath also too — Being a priest & all 
All he has to do is step on her feet with plate boots…

Arthas has heaps more content available and history than Knaifu. You can start filling in Xalatath by all means but still not going to be able to come close…yet…to filling it out in terms of sheer content.
Setup…we think we know she is a villain, but I believe even Maria Hamilton mentioned we may not know her true intentions in even being a villain or bad intentions. As far as setup…I would argue it’s still ongoing and will unfold over time, but still, she’s still in early stages of setup and development, but that’s I believe by intent to have the player slowly discover that, and that’s not bad. Her story is being told well.
Artha’s story is over and that’s fine, there’s plenty of room for more characters. But, Xalatath wasn’t in the RTS where Arthas has been around since * Warcraft: Of Blood and Honor (2000) - With Legion released in 2016. A full 16-year head start.
I mean Arthas is the villain most people think of when they think of Warcraft in general. Maybe Burning Legion? He’s iconic for a reason.
Xal’atath has yet to prove herself as a credible villain. Nuking Dalaran is a good start, but not actually killing… anyone is rather disappointing. She even had Khadgar and just didn’t him? Also her little dark focus thing did nothing, and then Sylvanas Alleria shot it with an arrow and it broke. Not sure what that was supposed to be about but I super don’t care if that’s all that happens with it. (I suspect it was a DF thing, I didn’t play DF)

I liked how Arthy would taunt us regularly throughout WoTLK.
Xal, is growing on me in the same way.
She’s predictable like Arthas was, but at least still entertaining.
They’re all ultimately goofy villains.

This is true, I just looked through the blizzard store merch, and you have a bunch of Arthas stuff…but still not Xal yet. I would think by time Midnight rolls around maybe there will be more Xal themed merch.

As far as the dark heart, it’s an energy absorb thingy. Feeds on rage, desire, violence, light, void, anger - almost akin to Sha if you played MoP where Sha manifests where those energies coalesce the Dark Heart can capture that.

I think technically because xal can morph into anyone / thing…infinte feet size ?
But her feet never touch the ground

Definitely Xal’atath, I’ve loved her ever since I first got her as a dagger in Legion and she whispered sweet nothings at me. Knaifu waifu forever.
