Master Loot did not work with white items back in the day, and it doesnt work now still. This is coming from someone who actually played SoD, and the had to change the quest items like Broodlord’s head or the Draconic for Dummies book pages to epic because it was otherwise automatically given to the first person who looted those only.
Back in 2006? Reminder that very few people actually stepped in, much less killed BWL bosses back in the day. It only became as widespread later down the road with classic re-releases and such. Instances such as clearing BWL in BC or similar don’t count.
It’s ultimately the lesser of the two evils here. Leaving it as it is completely destroys any merit or achievement (and in fact, it has been already destroyed in several cases) by allowing people to basically pay their way(with money or gold) through the fragments grind.
Changing it would at least do some damage control, and there’s the fact you still need a full raid to beat several bosses in the questline that don’t drop anything except your quest items (like doctor weavil or Eranikus).
yeah no one else touches the mob you just set it out of group loot. the reason it was changed was cause of the collusion i mentioned. pay someone to “accidentally” loot a head.
yes, my server had 13 guilds that had progressed through BWL in vanilla at aq release. im not certain if all of them could do the timed run for nef but they were perfectly capable of getting broodlord down.
Hmm. A bit doubtful, but my point stands. Nowadays you have dozens of guilds, along pugs, killing Broodlord with ease so its even more crowded than ever, and the “Layer” system makes things even worse.
Correct, so you set to free for all and let the person designated for it to loot it first. Or contact a GM to move the head to the selected player if someone else accidentally looted.
Note the quest items are now epic so they can be master looted, but white items are still unchanged. Hence why in 2024 you are better off doing FFA and only letting the would-be scarab lord to loot them.
THIS. Also add the tier vendors like they have on the PTR to live SoD servers as I do not have time to play the game. I’m entitled to super rare items like Scarab Lord because I have a terrible case of FOMO.
It really is a guild achievement though… Bug farming is just the beginning. Our horde guild got a scarab lord on Incendius in classic when it was 85/15 alliance. It was by far the most fun I have had in classic. Don’t want to make it tooo easy.
Have your buddies spec into or use runes that have instant casts. Don’t bring warriors, we can’t tag efficiently.
Prepare for the worst! I’ve been farming and saving gold since phase 3, and guess what? I saved 50k gold just for this day! Also, you do need your guild, you can’t get this quest finished without the help from your guild.
The only reason it was made more accesible and tolerable now is because they opened the AQ incursions early (they were exclusive to the 10 hours war).
You can now farm like 1-1.5k rep with brood an hour in raid(technically, you can get up to 3100-4k rep if you were to get ALL the tags, but with how much competition there is, your 40 man raid is more likely to only get enough tags for around 350-500 rep each in average, assuming a 40 man raid), which is infinitely more tolerable compared to the bug grind.
