All too often I find myself trying to set up a small scene in my home, and think, “ah, I need a fork/spoon/knife here…” only to find out that there are none!
Cutlery as a furniture category can vary from race to race. Human cutlery would be roughly the same as what one might expect to find in a real-world home. Orc cutlery would be large, crude, and bulky. Goblin cutlery would be powered by batteries, such as mini steak chainsaws, or rocket-propelled thruster forks (which would be ordinary fork, each with a small rocket attached via shoelace).
Personally, I’d like to see a few cutlery sets that come from crafting. Blacksmiths might forge a gold set, then a jewelcrafter could take that forged set and encrust it with gems. Alchemists or engineers might be able to electroplate cutlery.
More types of dinnerware, in general, would be a welcome sight. Plates, platters, jugs, etc.
Yes, but the Valdrakken carving fork is just that — a carving fork. It looks like a carving fork. Many people do display them beside dinner plates (which are just rugs) but most of us know these are just a make-do item to try and pass them off as forks until we get something legitimate.
I’ve been way more into my house than i expected to be, but that’s the thing that’s causing (mounting) drustration. We lack SO MANY basic decor items, and even things we have are lacking. We have like 2 or 3 sofas and one you can’t even interact-sit on.
I have enlough giant weird sculptured and structures, I have enough crates and shelves and barrels. PLEASE give me basic things like cutlery. Give me doors that aren’t heavy wood and metal, or swirly elf design. Windows that aren’t blindingly yellow or blue. They want to give us fantastical stuff and that’s great, but that’s a museum or amusement park. I really just want a home.
agreed, while i can kitbash a dinner service set, getting some more cutlery and plate options would be great! right now I am cheating and everyone is eating with chopsticks
edit: and a kettle!!! as a brit i am ashamed to have forgotten this most essential piece of a house.
Yeah. Some people that I’ve met are changing their language from “house” or “housing” to “home”. I can only guess but I’d think that Blizzard will fill the bar in future patches.
New zone stuff is cool, troll stuff, void stuff etc…I dig it, I’ll display quite a bit of it in places BUT we desperately need regular generic stuff and regular stuff for all races. Windows, doors, cutlery, plates, platters, glasses, mugs, shirts, pants, robes, gloves, hats, shoes, boots, belts, standing clothes hanger to hang items on, and so on and so forth.
Not to mention the vast majority of race and class items we are in serious need of, and I’m not even counting race exteriors we don’t have yet.
Obviously we could all spend an hour listing all of the things we want and hope to get, but we are seriously lacking a lot of basic decor it feels like we need, even if we ignore race and class stuff…for now.
I don’t need another fancy gazebo/fountain/well of magic structure… what I actually need are plates, bowls, spoons, forks, salt and pepper shakers, boots, hats, mittens… you know, the little things.
Also toilets. SoulSoBreezy tends to point these out in his videos, as players have come up with combinations of creative items to emulate them.
Yes you can create them using a combination of chairs, tables, beams, blue-coloured circular rugs. chests. chains, ropes (now we have Kobold ones), kite strings etc… or use an outdoor one, but surely engineers would have invented flushing toilets and bidets?
The Romans had working latrines, it’s not a giant stretch to imagine Azeroth’s wealthiest adventurers and brightest minds couldn’t manage indoor plumbing
All I recall from Latin studies was images of the communal latrines (Wikipedia Sanitation_in_ancient_Rome#Public_latrines) and vinegar-sponges-on-sticks. I guess that Roman villas must have had some sort of plumbing, for the very rich. Mostly effluent was chucked out the window onto the street (eww!).
The earliest indoor water closets weren’t common until the Victorian age, even though the first design for an “Ajax” was in 1596 by Sir John Harington, godson of Queen Elizabeth I. It included a water flush, and a valve to open and close the bottom of the pan.
However Medieval castles did include garde-robes, which had a seat and a hole leading to the outside wall of the castle (they were called this as the noxious fumes deterred moths and so robes were pegged up inside them). Outdoor closets are rare in the UK, except on campsites or forest trails, or festivals. However they were still in use in rural France in the 1970s (I had to endure one when staying with my French penfriend at their grandfather’s house!).
Either way gnomes or goblins should have the ability to craft something. Or perhaps enchanters - though I get the feeling it would be a teleport type affair, a la " Oculeth’s Workshop", hopefully not leading to exactly the same place in the ocean…
Here endeth the brief lesson on the history of toilets.
Another vote for basics, especially flatware and real dishes. I can’t help noticing that a lot of the stuff they’re giving us are things that were used to decorate public areas of other expansions. I’m not saying that having the stuff from Argus is bad, a lot of people like it. But we need stuff that was made specifically for our houses to make them homes.
I am redoing my dining room. I have to shrink rugs for plates. There is no cutlery. I thought “ah, it would be fun to set down cups that represent my characters” but there are no night elf or gnome cups. It’s very tiresome.
Right! Like… I wish someone on their team would stand up, get a pen and paper, and walk around their house. Write down random small objects that they see. Pull up popular fantasy media, like LotR or GoT. Watch and take notes of clutter that helps scenes feel “complete.” Go back to their workstation, review what they’ve got, and see what would be a “good add” to the game’s decor offerings.
I would much rather have a solid “core” of relatively mundane objects that expands rapidly, and then the more exotic things like racial furniture added “here and there.”
Like… the Amani decor is really cool. I love it. But it’s very hard to imagine places where those pieces might naturally fit in with what I already have, or even want to have. I still don’t have a proper set of dinnerware, but I have venom-covered barricades (I see how they could be used, but they don’t really do much for the overwhelming majority of people).
Just a basic, unremarkable set of plates, forks, knives, spoons, and drinking glasses would go a long way for a lot of people. Then we can take our more “exciting” options and set them out on the table as centerpieces.
We need more food items, too. Cakes, cupcakes, pancakes, eggs, bacon. Dried food we can hang up in our pantries - sausages, onions, and garlic. And more, too - sacks of vegetables, crates of plagued grain, bushels of apples.
I, too, would like a better selection of tableware. I would also like to stock my pantry with more food items. AND I would like some folded towels and soap or bottles to put in my many bathrooms. The towels could serve as blankets when enlarged.
See?! Small stuff! Imagine how much we could accomplish if we had dye-able towels. Individual folded towels, stacks of folded towels, hanging towels, wadded-up towels.
Bar soap. Just a plain bar of soap that can be dyed. That would go a million miles in terms of making custom items by compiling smaller objects. Then maybe another marbled bar of soap that has two dye slots. A small soap dish. Soap bottles. Straight razors! Trimming scissors! Combs! Dye-able jars of dye-able pomade!
