Wowhead bandwidth usage

lol…yeah…nothing can possibly go wrong with that

You know you can get Wowhead premium for free.

I had to use that and an Adblock, but also import specific ads to block because the site would try drawing so much data from me that it would hard lock my browser and crash.

You mistakenly assumed facetiousness for legitimate reverence.

Lol, Any Wikia/fandom sites on mobile that has a video playing on its page of whatever info will eventually end, force you ALL THE WAY back to the top of the page. What’s worse, I was reading a random info on a WH40k… And anyone knows Warhammer’s lore, very, very detailed that takes a few hours of your time to finish reading it all.

For Firefox users too.

However, I strongly recommend keeping another browser around with no ad blockers. Every now and than uBlock Origin stops a web site from working (weirdly on sites with no ads!)

I hadn’t noticed, but I can’t use Wowhead at all in Safari. It doesn’t play well with that browser. I have to switch to Firefox, which blocks all the ads and pop-ups.

Do your research before you leave home :stuck_out_tongue:

This is a problem with a lot of sites these days…they autoplay their stupid videos.

Yes im pretty sure they have a bitminer up their ally
(it’s not the videos or ads)

No, a couple of quick blockers fixes all this.

Something else some might find of interest… you can also use Ublock to block the “Dispatches from the Maw” section that folks keep asking for a way to remove in the Wowhead Feedback forum.

It does at times, but you can override that.

Even overridden, I’ve had a few–very few–sites not work. It’s very odd.

I haven’t had that issue, yet.

Yeah desktop safari really went downhill when they restricted extensions to being app store items. Used to use the ublock origin safari fork. Upside though is safari 14 blocks tracking by default. Although firefox with strict browsing is loads better.

Just install some addon’s to block them, people have been doing that for years now. The ad stream is how they cover the cost of running such a large fan site, they are pretty much the only active WOW db out there these days.

Nice.

Encouraging them to continue to do resource-sucking ads (that may or may not contain malware) intentionally and other questionable design practices because it apparently gets them subscriptions.

But hey, it’s your money. So you do whatever with it. Even if that includes tossing ten bucks into a raging dumpster fire annually.

yep. i had a friend who worked overnight security and they told him specifically that they had no problem with him playing wow on his laptop while on duty. as long as he wasn’t sleeping, they didn’t much care what he was doing to stay awake and alert.

You may want to loosen your tin foil hat, I think it is really starting to cut off the blood flow to your brain. They are doing the same damn thing google does every day. I know have you seen the amounts ads on youtube lately? Hell how about Twitch with ads during streams?

Stop acting like this is some sinister practice that only WOWhead engages in while pretty much everyone else is doing the same damn thing.

Oh no, someone might have to have three less coffees a year…
