I really dislike WoW Tokens and similar systems in other games. I understand that it’s nice for players who have decent gold income to be able to essentially play for free, but it really does hurt the economic and profession sides of the game.
Why take up a profession when you can just buy a token and buy whatever the people who still do it make? Why put any effort into finding ways to make gold to support your consumables and vanity when you can just drop $20 whenever you need it?
It’s not great.
It’s not as bad as it is in a game like Runescape that revolves a lot more around economy, but it’s still bad.
It’s also what enabled the carry “industry” to explode to what it was (and to some extent still is). There’s no putting that genie back in the bottle. People are more aware of carries on all realms than they ever were pre-Token, even if they’re slightly less accessible than they were 5 months ago.

Not saying professions don’t make gold.
Saying it’s too easy to ignore them entirely because you can just grab a token and purchase what other people make instead of having any incentive to do it yourself.
(like the Legendary system right now)

Without the token I wouldn’t be playing the game, I spend 42.5 hours a week at work 25 hours a week in my weekly commute, this doesn’t leave a lot of time to play the game.
The token pays for my consumable, one token a month does this very easily and is worth about 40 minutes of taking a crap at work.

Well if you or someone can figure a way to create a token that can only be used on either the bnet account or the subscription, I’d be happy with it to go that way.
I know not everyone would but it would fulfill its most important purpose for me, and others like me.
Of course, what would happen is this: people who want gold but cannot afford the time to farm it would do what they did prior to the token - they would go to gold selling sites. So the token might disappear but gold buying would not, it would just get a lot more dangerous.
There is a cap on how many tokens you can buy each week. I believe it’s 10?
Without the token I wouldn’t be playing the game, I refuse to spend RL money on this game.
I have not paid for game time since the tokens came out. I have not bought the X-packs with RL Money since we were able to spend Bnet account money from tokens.

I like the tokens. They let me buy diablo 2 with WoW gold.

well I for one just started a new account just for playing alliance. I normally play only horde on my other account. My first toon was a level 10 Dark Iron Dwarf Pally. Now how do you think I was able to get my bags and get started when you start with 2 bags and 1 gold 4 silver. At that level you aren’t going to make much on professions. But then I had the boost to 50 with took me to 500 gold. Still crap to start with. So I took the short cut and bought a token to give me a chance to actually play when Alliance totally sucks for income. Every time I attempt to start a new realm just to test how easy it is for new players, I run into the same problem. No income and a long sludge of dispair trying to make a start. It always ends up with the same result. Get a token so I can get started playing and enjoying myself. Professions are totally worthless at low levels and have been for a long time. Ever since WOD.

I’d be okay without wow tokens if they didn’t gut my ability to make gold just by playing the game. If I just did regular activities that award gold, I wouldn’t be able to afford anything.
