I understand what you’re asking. I’m giving you the conversion rates without going into too much detail because I’m not sure how close this kind of discussion skates to the edge.
You’re looking at trading about somewhere between 100-150 gold and that’s if someone is desperate for retail gold.
You can arrange this through the in-game chat but that will only enable Blizzard to remove whatever you traded to the scammer. They won’t return the scammed gold/items to you.
Also, it’s probably faster to roll a character on retail and farm 175K gold than it is to farm 150 golf in Classic 
I wasn’t talking about $1,000 dollars worth of gold. That was about how much gold it took to buy a token on launch.
