If they opened up with group loot, the purists would rant. Its not as it was, at all.
And group has a few workarounds. Paid carries can funnle gear. Not a well as master loot, but it can be worked to some degree.
Now if they opened with the even more effective personal loot…riots at blizzard gates lol.
Personal would fix this. I get the mcguffin. 1st time. Player x pm’s me… I will give you 1 million for it.
I’d want that gold more tbh. But I can’t even trade the item. its an upgrade. its super glued to me. It can only go on my character to use, sell to vendor for say 3 gold. or disenchant. or bag/bank storage lol.
RMT is obviously a huge issue in Classic Anniversary. Didn’t play 2019 Classic due to having no time for it so can’t comment on how it was.
I did play actual Vanilla (2006) and gold buying was a thing then too. So was botting, and buying loot with gold (and possibly real money) from raids. I’ve commented before that GDKP didn’t exist then that I ever came across in game or on forums where raiding is discussed - but that doesn’t mean some guilds weren’t selling items they just did it as “pay on drop”. Buyers were added to the raid and placed out of the way and paid if their item dropped basically.
“Vanilla” has two fundamental problems. You need more of all the expensive consumables and in some cases expensive world drops and crafted items just to meet basic raiding requirements in a typical guild. You cannot earn the amount of gold needed to meet these requirements through just playing the game by “raid logging”. Most of your time spent in the game will be spent on keeping your gold up if you are playing 100% legit and bringing all that you could to your team in raid.
The motivations for RMT are practically built into the game and that is not even talking about those highly coveted items we hear stories about from GDKPs.
I think the WoW token is an inevitable reality for Classic versions of the game because with or without it people are not going to spend that much time doing “raid chores” just to play the game.
People don’t Alt raid in Anniversary. It’s not Phase 1. The most crazy unhinged diehard players raid on two toons. Raiding on two toons in Naxx is straight up unhealthy. Even with two day clears, which is standard for decent guild, you are looking at 4 days of world-buffs, 4 days of flasking, and 4 days of side consumes depending on your class.
Agreed. I said this before in another post, but it’s almost like GDKPs were never the problem, but maybe only a symptom of the problem! Before RMT was becoming prevalent on a mass scale, GDKPs still existed and much of the gold used for bidding was “ethically farmed.” It was obvious to anyone with plural brain cells that banning GDKPs would do absolutely nothing to the botting and gold-selling. There’s at least a dozen other gold sinks in the game that people are willing to buy gold for like mounts, getting boosted in dungeons, consumables and crafted gear, BOEs, etc.
