When the WoW application is open every 5-15min at random times for approx. 30 seconds the game causes my FPS to drop from 100 to around 5-10 for 30+ seconds and my computer lags out since the weekly update on Tuesday 4/15/2025. IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE CLIENT IS OPEN (even if I’m logged into a character or siting on the character login screen). Once i close it my computer starts acting normal again.
I’ve tried disabling EVERY addon and I’ve gone through and verified all of my drivers /bios are up to date and such. Ran a scan and repair on the game with no joy.
One thing that can cause this is if overlays are enabled somewhere and somehow steal focus and put WoW into background FPS mode. Disable overlays in every single program you have open. Even Discord auto-enabled overlays again recently, so if you previously had them disabled, go re-disable them.
Then maybe it’s a security software issue. What are you using? Also, are you using any VPNs? They can be notorious for randomly causing issues. The only other thing I can think of would be thermal throttling, so maybe try capping your frame rates to something reasonable like <100fps.
Yeah another annoying issue can be that the Nvidia app(was Geforce Experience before) also causes an annoying issue for some where it will put the max fore/background FPS limits in the wrong spot, if it’s set to auto optimize games.
