Gear isnt content, they 10000% should get rid of gear, gear is nothing but a toxic point for the elitist gatekeepers
Gear shouldn’t be gate-keeping for competition and this was explained. There should be a BiS gearing path that isn’t hidden behind M+ or Arena rating. The point I have made and will continue to make is that “Gearing” should be fun and attainable. There shouldn’t be ANY weekly toxic vault. Just put BiS gear at Vendors for Valor.
Power progression is the main reason we play an MMORPG or RPG and it should feel rewarding. The problem is Blizz lost touch with how to do that several expansions ago.
You’re describing basic progression in most RPG’s. In almost every game of this genre, you work towards getting stat boosts (in the form of gear or level ups) so that you can take on challenges in the end game that grant you things such as cosmetics.
I hate to say this because this is just such a mainstream nasty way to dismiss people who disagree with you on video games but: maybe just play another game? If these genres you’ve mentioned really match up to your preferred way of gaming then maybe they’re just better suited to you and asking for all of WoW to then cater to your very specific genre preference is a bit much? WoW wouldn’t be WoW anymore without gear progression–it’s a key part of the fantasy. It’s not like LoL where you can just pick it up and learn a rotation. You need to invest time and effort into making your character strong so that they can engage in new ways with the world throughout their story.
Gear isnt content it is nothing but a number toxic gatekeepers use to keep people from playing the game, gear isnt content gear should be removed from the game gear isnt content its toxic only elitist who dont want content in the game want to keep anyform of power progression
Gear is fine but you should only require the same set for which ever spec you are playing with exception to pvp which should be separate pvp gear but again usable for which ever spec you chose to play. Also top tier gear sets should be purchased with Justice and Valor for dgn and raid gear. Honor and Conquest for PVP tier gear sets.
The idea of playing for a hour or more in a Dungeon or Raid and then getting nothing out of it with nothing is because the slot machine didn’t give you anything once again is insanity.
You wrote all of that just to stretch out a whole word: Wrong.
No.
lmao.
Ppl don’t do content in this game if it doesn’t give gear. I think the playerbase proved this several times over the lifespan of this game. Nearly everything that doesn’t reward gear was abandoned by blizzard because no one participated in it in the first place.
Challenge modes were basically ‘‘how well your team can perform’’(synced gear and no power gains for succeeding) as you said and it got scrapped cause almost no one touched it, yet m+ which is somewhat the same thing is the most popular addition to the game and we all know why that is.
The problem (for me) is that I don’t engage with some gameplay until I outgear it.
I’m not here to try to be a raider. But players who are here for that and I can share the same content by having a shifting window of power.
Challenge modes and mythic plus arent content, they are just a toxic experience gatekept by toxic elitist. Getting rid of gear would ne beneficial for the game as a whole to get rid of the sweatlord toxic elitist who blizzard caters too instead of the 99%.
I’m gonna see if I can summarize the OP (filling in gaps where I can):
- Transform all equippable gear into “click to add this to your appearance collection” items.
- Character “gear” slots become “transmog” slots, set when visiting a transmogrifier (which could arguably just combine with the barber shop at this point).
- All character power is derived from your talent trees and base class/race abilities, unless “borrowed power” makes a comeback (yuck) or each area has a “locational power” associated with it (think WoD leveling zones).
- The entire Normal/Heroic/Mythic/Mythic+ system for dungeons and raids would have to be reconsidered since character power is effectively static after hitting max level. Slightly tweaking enemy health and damage no longer feasible as a means extend lifetime of playable “content”.
- All progression becomes linear from patch to patch and expansion to expansion.
- Professions would need a wild overhaul.
- Performance enhancing consumables would take center stage and the only attainable means of enhancing player power (unless the OP is suggesting that those should be removed too).
TLDR: Gear is far too ingrained into the very core of WoW’s game design that removing it is effectively impossible without revamping the entire game altogether.
Sounds like you’re looking for a good arcade game. Gauntlet did this perfectly.
I love my World of Warcraft and it’s “dress the doll” vibes.
Interesting that they made that comment before i called them kiddo…wanna try again?
Way to totally not get my point
I could say the same of you. I’m done running circles with you.
WoW should get rid of gear.
Better yet WoW should get rid of bad takes like yours .
Interesting that they made that comment before i called them kiddo…wanna try again?
I’m starting to see a pattern of you missing points. Maybe you’re not quite as intelligent as you seem to think you are.
Challenge modes and mythic plus arent content
Funny how they’re things you can do in the game, making up the . . . uh . . . content of the game.
They arent content they are just a way for blizzard to once again cater to the 1% and the toxic mentality that runs rampant in this game

Oh boy… ![]()
I think the OP’s Great Wall of Text lowered the average intelligence in the forum .
but I just need a moment of your time to show you the alternative
I’m going to save you the trouble and just say no without reading your pointless wall of text.
Ppl don’t do content in this game if it doesn’t give gear.
This isn’t true, though. People still do content from previous tiers and expansions for the cosmetics and achievements. You’re telling me you and everyone you know and have ever played with never go back to old content? Earlier this month you got the Achievement Glory of the Raider (25 player), which is from Wrath of the Lich King. In fact you gained quite a few achievements from old content this month. What was the motivation behind that? What kind of gear did you get from that? Did it make your character stronger?
m+ which is somewhat the same thing is the most popular addition to the game and we all know why that is.
You stop getting gear upgrades from M+ at level 15, so we should be able to see that no one pushes past that since gear is the sole motivator.
unless “borrowed power” makes a comeback (yuck)
Is gear not borrowed power? Obviously not in the sense of your standard expansion-specific power gains, but it is borrowed all the same. You gain it during one tier and throw it away in the next. It’s as much a temporary part of your character as expansion systems, if not more so.
Gear is far too ingrained into the very core of WoW’s game design that removing it is effectively impossible without revamping the entire game altogether.
I agree, and I do not think this is a direction the devs will ever take, but I believe it’s important to see gear for what it really is and not the illusion that people have been lead to believe it is. You can see the people in this thread that can’t even begin to entertain the idea that the game doesn’t actually need gear to be good. So many people here just commenting “yeah I’m not going to read that, you’re wrong” or just “No.” because monkey brain want shiny upgrade.
cater to your very specific genre preference
It’s not really specific though. It’s literally every other genre. I’m simply asking the question: Why does WoW need gear? Other people here are claiming it’s because they feel good about making their character stronger, but that can’t be true. Does it feel good to kill the same boss week after week only for it to never drop the upgrade you want? Does it feel good to put in the time to get your BIS only for it to become obsolete in the next patch? Do you look back on all of the gear that you ever attained in the lifetime of your character and think “Man, I’m so much stronger because of all that.”? Gear is just a temporary stat stick and doesn’t actually make your character stronger.
