I moved WoW from my C drive to an external SSD, to try to make DF actually playable. It mostly worked, but now every single time I open Battle.net, WoW always requires a small update. Also, Battle.net itself thinks it needs an update but every time I do it, it opens back up and lo and behold, it still requires an update. Where did I go wrong? Thanks.
This is not recommended, but it needs to be formatted with NTFS file system…
Not the FAT32 format they are normally sold. Check that.
Option in Battle.net to never auto update…
Run Battle.net on your C:\ drive…
They changed awhile ago that.
Battle.net then PLAY…
You get at least 40% better speed in your computer; rather that a USB 3.1.
Maybe, but not on my computer that doesn’t have an SSD. Game was unplayable before and now I can play. I just have to spend 2 minutes updating every single time I open Battle.net.
Laptop or desktop?
It’s a desktop.
I bought a m2 in a usb case…
Bought a x4 pcie edge card and installed my SSD on that card.
You can get a x1 or x4 or x8 or x16 card adaptors.
Walmart sells a x1 for $10
But as for the update each time … They are most likely not finishing the update.
So when I first open it, it says needs update, can’t hit “play”. Then I do the update and it says “play”. But when I close out and start over, “update” is back. Repeat endlessly. I can still play, just kind of annoying having to update every time.
Reboot computer…
Change battle.net … Not to start when starting computer.
What size ssd are you using? WoW installation is quite large now. Last I looked it was over 200 gb. Also if you’re plugging a usb 3.1 drive into a usb 2.0 port you’ll be getting the slower speeds. As suggested a ssd card installed into appropriate slot would give you the fastest load times and breath new life into your system.
It’s a 2 TB. Not sure on the speeds. It works way better than I thought it would, it was unplayable before and now I can play the game and it boots up in mere seconds. When I load into Valdrakken it only takes maybe 5 to 10 seconds for everything to appear. Before it took minutes. I couldn’t go into the gladiator area for several minutes because the door was just a black hole. Etc.
