WOW Pet Battles -vs- 0 Fun

(Above 1200 unique. Not great but was challenging.)
Anyway, I used to love farming pet battles. I truly enjoyed it. Id go collect pets, do any pet dailies and anything else related to pets.
Now I get ZERO enjoyment and I dont even want to log in that day to attempt my regular pet daily routine.
Kind of started in Legion when the Devs forced players to go farm pet specifics just to beat one daily.
Now in Shadowlands its just a nightmare.
ITS NOT FUN ANYMORE. Its that simple.
Npc background hidden stats just destroyed any enjoyment any of us had with wow pets.

  1. Player hits pet for a strong hit an npc pet hits players pet for a weak hit. In the end the npc still almost hits double what the players strong hit did.
  2. npc hidden stats are out of hand (crit, hit, stun chance and others) . non elite teams given 300+ power and 400+ speed stats. In a 3 man team nonetheless.
  3. All Shadow land pet achievements are RNG based.
I can go on. But Im tired of complaining to a gaming company who forget the main purpose that gaming is for FUN and ENJOYMENT. Not STRESS.
Basically what wow has accomplished: I dont want to play this game any longer and it sucks I am thinking like this.

I’m not sure how you are having problems with battle pet dailies if you have over 1200 unique pets. But, if you are having trouble defeating the npc, I would suggest using Xu-Fu’s pet guide.

I’ve been able to beat all of them, but I sympathize with OP. Losing a fight purely because the NPC crit twice without a crit buff drives me up the wall…and then my 300-470 ability hitting for 303, 307, 321…my 1-3 attack ability hitting once 4 times in a row…

I’ve gone on a pet leveling spree since the SL prepatch, and I really like the idea of pet battles, but sometimes just feels completely out of my hands. That’s RNG for you, but it’s too much in some cases.

Not really feeling the rage here.

Unless you are doing the Family Exorcist thing, most of the dailies are pretty easy. Guides and strategies are plentiful at Xu-Fu or Wowhead. If you are trying to figure out your own teams, I can see where it might be frustrating. But there are easy buttons readily available.

Even on the Family Exorcist, you only have to defeat 9 of 11 bosses. If there is one that’s too hard, you just skip it. Not like it was in Legion where one flyer boss was almost impossible to beat with an Aquatic team. That one was unfair,

No.
People are already changing the topic. TOPIC “ITS NOT FUN!!!.” No one is stating its impossible or hard to do. ITS NOT FUN IS THE TOPIC.
I knew players would auto change the topic to whatever they wanted. its why I checked the chat.

They can make it more fun with over 2k pets in hand. The rng is over kill (Not fun) and pet specifics is just rude to over 1200 other pets no one will ever use.

I was curious what other pet collectors thought. Basically are you still having fun?? or Not??
Anything else being stated is way over kill and that player should make there own topic for that topic.

I’m still having fun. But then I’ve been playing WoW long enough to recognize that it has to stay challenging to keep people sending Blizzard money every month.

I say bad words, sometimes loudly, when an unexpected crit wipes one of my team’s pets, but I also understand that there’s a reason they get favoritism on their abilities and their RNG. The Trainer pets are dumb! Mostly predictable fixed moves instead of thinking out alternatives on each turn. And Wowhead and Xu-fu and others tell us exactly what strategies to use. Sure they don’t always work the first few times but then you win.

Guides say you need a particular pet that you don’t have ? Get it. Yeah, that may be hard and take a lot of work, but have you noticed that’s what World of Warcraft is all about.

Bottom line, if it’s not fun for you, you shouldn’t do it.

I have a lot of fun with it. It is fun to collect the pets, level/rare them up, and conquer all of the achievements. I like it all.

Doing the daily tamers to keep an inventory of stones isn’t fun but nor is it dreadful. It is just a daily chore that needs to be done no different than all of the other dailies.

The PVP aspect is frustrating that we are basically cornered into running tier 1 teams to have any chance to compete and the queue times are so long. I think rather than once every two months we have a weekly quest that gives us a leveling stone which is useless to anyone other than a collector, it should be changed so at least once a month there is a 10-win weekly quest that grants a high ilvl piece of gear or 150 conquest points. That would get a lot more players involved. And I understand that for us seasoned collectors that would be like fishing in a barrel and the tears up here would be legendary…“my entire team destroyed in three rounds by one pet…do you guys even have a life?”, but eventually they would either sink or swim.

I can hear it now, “We are being forced into play!”
With some justification if this became a reality.

“REEEE FORCED” always comes down to some self-inflicted pathological FOMO. In other words, not at all.

I agree with this, some specific SLs pet battles are pretty bad, you can’t just take the strong group of pets and pick any from that group ie glimmerdust(? i think it’s called) Just picking any magic (magic strong vs flying) doesn’t work and you get your butt handed to you.

Really do think some trainers are overkill and I think it will turn off new pet battlers. Some pets have over 500 power/speed etc in a team of 3, really does seem overkill.

So far have never found an SL WQ trainer that I gives me any problems. Then I’m not proud, I check Wowhead and Xu-Fu’s for strategies that they’ve spent who knows how may hours perfecting. Admit I have a lot of pets myself, but can’t think of any of the strats that require pets that are really hard to get hold of.

I’m sorry it’s not fun for you. It’s still fun for me. I hope you find something else you enjoy.

The only aggravating thing for me thus far has been the inconsistency of rng vs the pet battler trainers in shadowlands. Idk if it’s just me but the 10% miss chance of darkness is more like 20%, and I seem to get crit on much more than I crit them. This is the first expansion where he lopsidedness has gotten a little comically frustrating.

I had brutal RNG today vs glitterdust. Three misses in a row during darkness (should be 90% chance to hit), and constant crits from her. Ended up taking 6 tries for a normal game to happen without ridiculous RNG. That being said, this is for the family familiar achievements so a bit of a challenge is expected and enjoyed.

This. I understood what OP was saying, and I see what he’s talking about happening ingame all the time.

For me, the fun has not stopped being fun…but I only started pet battling in 8.3 of BfA.

I never did a pet battle prior to BfA outside of a couple (and by that, I mean two or three) attempts at learning how it worked outside of Stormwind back in MoP.

For me, pet battles are still a relatively new “thing” to collect and obsess over, so I’m still thoroughly enchanted by it and have tons of content and new pets to collect (sitting at roughly 750 unique right now, last I checked) before I run into “well…I’ve done everything.”

I can see OP’s point, and I see the ridiculous crit RNG and hidden power they have that is frustrating beyond reason. It should be about strategy, not about running it five times until the NPC pet fails to crit. Solving the puzzle is what I find fun about the master battles and WQs. Once they kill that in favor of just making it frustrating, they’ll have effectively killed any kind of skill-based PvE for battle pets.
