That bothers me a lot that FPS have better talent trees than WoW.
To me that shows the devs refuse to be creative and take WoW to another level.
Recyling rental abilities isn’t creativity. Regrinding legendaries I gained in legion for systemlands doesn’t even make sense from a RPG point of view.
It has been since at least mid-wrath, when older content within the same expansion stopped mattering for player power. Just because they didn’t call PvE content seasons until M+ doesn’t mean it wasn’t still seasonal. Raid tiers & PvP seasons made the game seasonal long before BFA.
One needs to completely rethink about the issue.
To begin, systems like artifact weapon / heart of azeroth shouldn’t be a thing.
We should not design something so huge and just to scrap it immediately next expansion and start from scratch.
Think about the development time required for the whole covenant system + conduit, and the 9.1 arrival date? It is clearly not sustainable.
We need additive features, things that carry on.
Throwing things into trash is bad for the game in the long run, because after 10 years, the content we have is, current content only.
yeah this. I just never did understand why it was changed to a grey item. you cannot use it in new area and its useless at higher level anyhow. it never should of been disabled until your char moved to BFA!
The faster certain devs - not even just WoW - learn this, the healthier their games will be.
I swear, Final Fantasy is the only modern MMO that seems to get this almost entirely right. (They still have arena seasons, but thank god it’s not an actual focus for them.)
Raid tiers aren’t seasons btw. And they weren’t even close until they attached a mount to AoTC. (Which should go on the BMAH anyways after like, 5 years.)
Yeah I get why they do it in principle but if you are going to leave them in their own slivers of time, people won’t get even close to the experience say, Legion was, when a lot of that is grey trash items now.
It really feels like things such as the garrisons, class hall, etc, collecting dust to some extent feels like a waste of resources.
This game has ‘World’ in it, yet I always feel it should just be renamed 5 zone of Warcraft lol… 'cause everything beyond the new zones is collecting dust.
Don’t forget the entire reason why I quit retail after Legion. They removed World Defense my end game content and replaced it with Warmode. A mode that only makes current content possible to find pvp. World Defense made all content possible for fights since it spam alarted you with in game messages. RIP Retail intill that change gets reverted.
Stuff is removed to elicit the FOMO[1] response from the player base. It’s done to get people to do stuff because it might go away for ever.
To me this change in direction means the Devs no longer believe in their own ability to create content that people want to do because it is fun. (Content that people do because they have an intrinsic motivation to do it.) They can only think of ways to get people into content by extrinsic motivation methods.
I completely agree, OP. I was just leveling this alt through Legion the other day and I suddenly was struck with sadness about how Blizzard completely obliterated Legion. I have never taken a rogue through the Order Hall. I realized how cool it was and how I would never get to experience the Artifact weapons. It’s a shame. They put such hard work into such an interesting expac only to see it gone. I’m honestly not even sure how they could make a decision to destroy their own work like that.
What is the point on maintaining old systems that new players will out level in a couple of hours? That would just confuse players trying to learn 3 different Legion systems that suddenly go away when you start leveling in BFA, where you have another 3 systems.
Except that’s not actually the case because Blizzard already has a good solution: It doesn’t work in the next expansion zones.
The Heart of Azeroth doesn’t work in the Shadowlands with wibbly wobbly lore stuff to explain why, but it does work elsewhere. And we already know that next expac, the covenant systems only work IN the Shadowlands. Which means you still get to play with them and go crazy in the older zones and when doing legacy content. The Covenant Abilities that worked well get carried over to next expac and you can just play around.
This isn’t as difficult as Blizzard and their sycophants likes to pretend it is.
