Wow Might Introduce A Premium Currency

It has been reported that Dataminers from Wowhead found several icons and pack listings within the alpha files, all pointing to a system similar to what we’ve seen in Overwatch or Diablo IV.

What might this Mean for Players if true?
The potential introduction of a premium currency could reshape how World of Warcraft handles its cosmetic economy.

This would move Wow closer to modern live-service monetization, giving players new customization options but also raising questions about accessibility and fairness.

However, with Midnight launching soon, fans are already talking about whether this could be a new era for Wow or a controversial one for the game.

My opinion is that this might be a step in the wrong direction if true. But since this news is hard to confirm, it boils down to internet speculation. So I don’t know for sure?

What do you think, have you heard any news that either confirms this speculation or disproves it? And if it were true, what do you think the impact would be on the game and it’s players?

PS: Ok so now it’s official:

furthermore didn’t the EU require places that do multiple RMT currencies to just list the cash amount for the item for sale? So if they’re just going to be listing them for sale for money, then why have the secondary currency?

It’s as lame as the cash shop stuff, but if I’m being honest… as long as it doesn’t effect gameplay, it’s not that big of a deal to me.

I just don’t want them to double dip. If they’re gonna do some weird premium currency then there should be no sub.

I’m more of a ‘I’ll believe it when I see it’ type. I’m not claiming it won’t happen, but people were expecting the same thing regarding Trader’s Tenders.

I threw money at the screen and nicked the monitor :frowning: … with a NICKEL

Misinformation has been clickbaited by Wowhead. And had several boatloads of threads about it already.

Wulf, there’s already been 5-6 threads that I’ve already seen on this topic and you are bringing nothing to the table that hasn’t already been discussed ad nauseam before. You couldn’t have just added your opinion to one of the existing threads instead of starting yet another thread on the exact same thing?

There’s been tons of speculation on it already, but it’s all still speculation. Nothing definitive has been found yet.

Hey, remember how people datamined a bunch of currency items for Trader’s Tender and then went on to rant and rave about how Trader’s Tender would be purchasable in the store?

And then that didn’t happen at all, and it was a total nothingburger?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Yep, it could just be like Trader’s Tenders that are purchasable in the Chinese markets. I’m surprised so many people forget about that already.

But we will have to wait and see.

Yeah, this isn’t the first time I’ve seen people freak out about datamined dialogue strings or items.

I still remember way back before Cataclysm launched, when it was datamined that Varian Wrynn would confront Benedictus and kill him beneath the Cathedral and that Grand Magister Rommath would reveal himself as a cultist of the Twilight’s Hammer.

And then the expansion released, and Rommath was perfectly fine; he never joined the Twilight’s Hammer, and while Benedictus would be exposed as a Twilight Cultist, it wasn’t by Varian in the Cathedral but by Thrall in Wyrmrest Temple.

I don’t like what this means at all!
