WoW keeps completely freezing my PC, event viewer isn't showing any kind of error?

Recently returned to the game and several times since I started playing again, my PC will just completely lock up and stop responding. It isn’t exactly a common occurrence, but it has happened about a half dozen times so far in the two weeks since I came back to the game. And nothing in particular seems to cause it, like it just happened to me moments ago and I was doing a random campaign quest.

My PC specs (drivers and everything up to date):

  • Ryzen 7 7700X
  • 6800 XT 16GB
  • 32GB DDR5 6000 CL36

Never experienced anything like this with any other game, and I have no life, so I spend a lot of time playing a lot of different games. Also when trying to diagnose the issue, nothing appears in the event viewer… My crash just now, for example, events for the reboot of my PC appear as well as a critical error about the PC not shutting down correctly prior to the reboot, but before that there is nothing, no errors of any kind, let alone critical errors… The most recent events before the reboot events were an hour prior to the crash and were Windows updates.

Any ideas what is going on here?

Thanks

Freezes/shut downs are beyond the scope of Blizz tech support because they point to a system issue. But they have steps to help here:
