If they added player housing, then player housing would have to be on the TODO list of every expansion henceforth.
You think folks will be happy living in Elwynn Forest for the rest of eternity?
“Ok, we’re on expansion 27, we need a new suite of furniture to be crafted. So let’s work on those recipes, the rare drop recipes, the rare mat recipes, etc. etc. etc.”
Or “Ok, we need to fence off a zone in the Maw for those people that want to move in there”
Folks complain about all of the systems in the game. Housing is One More System. One More thing to be built, managed, maintained, written for, edited, and expanding forever forward.
This is A reason that it hasn’t been introduced (even though, of course, it has via the Farm and the Garrison but THAT NOT WHAT WE WANT™).
Thats a good point. Not going to argue with you on the difficulty of it. I still think it could be done in a less rocket science way.
and when I say system. yes the housing would be a system but it wouldn’t be gated or tied to anything player progression wise. No raids no M+ attachment. something for everyone to just mess around and do. just a fun thing.
And what makes you think something like player housing would cause Blizzard to lose money? If it happens to be popular and causes people to subscribe to the game, then it wouldn’t cause a loss. The game has been losing subscribers for years, according to estimates.
They already explained why they can’t do ‘tints’.
And yes I agree, it would be nice if they ‘spiced’ it up but seems they are now on the backfoot and things will be stretched out with as little time spent on these things as possible. This will unfortunately be the trend it seems.
Something they think is replayable, they can just add to, make smaller zones, no flying for a year, and have you working to ‘earn’ rewards that should of been in the game from the get go (working on upgrading WQ rewards and stuff like that, common blizz) lol
I wouldn’t see player housing anytime in the future. Too much of a head ache for little return. They already have a core game full of systems they are sticking with and can’t do it in a fun way except for nerfing them into oblivion.
Unfortunately due to the influence of (the failure of) Garrisons, Blizzard has a severe aversion to this idea. It’s not justified, and what player/guild housing could bring to WoW can’t be overstated, but unfortunately, it’s one of many things that falls within the desolate wastes of Blizzards pathological neuroticism.
Armor Dyes would require a two-fold revamp of the entire armor system. First, the underlying system itself from a technological perspective, and second from a reward system perspective as static coloration is how they differentiate difficulty rewards.
Mount dyes would largely require the same. They did have one dye-able mount from Mechagon, but that was only the one, not a whole system revamp.
As the Water Strider alterations show, they want mounts to be a matter of choice, not a matter of “this one is the objective functional best”. Unfortunately, Blizzard has only grown increasingly anti-player mobility, as the Maw and mounting restrictions therein prove, so don’t expect anything on this front.
While I wouldn’t say they don’t have new ideas, SLs largely feel remixed from other older ideas. The covenants, soulbinding, conduits… just another disposable system that won’t matter once everything is said and done.
Honestly, I find myself more of the mind that they should do less “new” things and just put out a Wrath-styled expansion with everything as focused and polished on the fundamentals as possible. WoW was at its peak without these hokey carnival goldfish systems - they would do well to emulate that and instead invest in features that won’t be thrown out like week old leftovers when the expansion is over.
you’re using wildstar’s example? which would turn housing into just a portable Inn?
also, you’re using two other examples that are the worst for housing
FFXIV is notoriously predatory and limited, resulting in people having to squat their houses just because the game will delete your house if you don’t log in for a while
and ArchAge? Dude! They had issues with land hoarding and predatory land races. I don’t think people would like that and i’m sure you’d be complaining when prime real estate is gobbled up by squatters
I’m not saying they can’t, I’m saying they said why. And that’s all that matters because at the end of the day, it’s their product. Whether they BS me or tell me the truth, they won’t be doing it so that’s all there is to it. Not anytime soon at least.
WoW is the only MMORPG that is constantly innovating. You may not like it, but that’s a fact. Every other MMORPG is stagnating and using the same idea over and over.
Is your reading comprehension non existent? I specifically said FFXIV and archage housing were terrible and specifically said those are examples NOT to follow.
