There really isn’t a AAA console franchise out there that interests me, and they seem to do a massive amount of copycatting each other anyway so if you don’t like one you won’t like a dozen. I’m sure if I dumped $60 a month eventually I’d find something I like, I’ve just gotten so used to pc gaming it’s really so much more “me,” which is admittedly as subjective as it gets. Seriously, it doesn’t matter how good I was on, say, NES when I play these newer games (I was beast at OG Zelda in the day, nothing translates). They are as much their own thing as keyboard and mouse, and just utterly foreign to me since I hadn’t owned one since original PS, which ironically was mainly to play 2D fighters and FF games.
Admittedly my tastes are eccentric, I almost exclusively play MMORPG’s with fully customizable characters, for instance, and they have to be third person. There’s not a lot of that on PS4, I looked pretty hard and it was pretty much FFXIV with a side of FFXIV. Diablo3 type games don’t count because I’ve already overplayed D3 on console and everything that’s a clone of it looks and feels worse (warhammer40k I’m lookin at you). Again, purely subjective.
