WoW has to be one of the worst optimised top games

I don’t use a prepackaged UI like ElvUI and I have no issues with configuring or accessing information gathered by addons. I always have “details” running and check it frequently during raids without any lag.

Yeh no just hold your mouse over the ? and simply turn in a circle.

What question mark? The only ones that are part of the default UI are on the calendar and quest NPCs and I have never had and issue related to either of them.

The one on the minibar that tells you how much addons usage you have going. I notice when I get around 250Mb of addon usage it will lag when I am hovering over that ?.

So it sounds like it is an Add-on issue. It is possible that one of your add-ons is broken or out of date. I would recommend loading them one at a time and seeing which one is causing it. You can also see the add-on memory usage to see if that is high.

Just post a screen shot of your UI. I just checked my addon memory useage and it hovers around 300mbs, it grows a bit but then a garbage collection occurs and brings it back down again. So I am using more memory for my addon’s and not experiencing any issues.

This will actually hurt CPU usage and GPU usage. Just because it’s not using 100% CPU doesn’t mean that’s a bad thing. It just means it’s being more efficient. DX11 will actually hurt performance overall.

That question mark, if you hover over that and move around with enough MB usage you should see some lag.

Now that I see what you are talking about. Yes I do get a split second hitch when I hover over that and move around. The question is, doesn’t it really matters? I mean until you pointed it out I had never even noticed it and I can’t see doing that all that often. Sure it is odd but it’s not like you are running around out there playing the game while hovering over that context menu anyways.

Hitches like that are related to addon performance not the game as a whole. I have that issue with an addon that shows where something comes from for example. Items with a large list can use a 1s hang as the addon runs.

Yeah, considering it reports the top three mods currently using memory it would make sense. As it would have to be accessing live data about the memory usage of each addon to report that and depending upon how often it does this…

Yes and no, normal usage it does not matter, but it happening means there is something not right between WoW and having too much memory usage for addons which is why you get an FPS drop when things are going, like raiding and BG’s because more addons are being utilised and the game cannot handle it.

Without addons, just straight default UI even on my old computer I had over 100 FPS in a raid, as melee when there is more going on screen closer to you character and even in 40 man BG’s.

But the minute you go past 200MB usage it start having issues and your FPS starts dropping, for a game in 2020 with PC’s like we have that do not use full CPU, GPU or RAM, that issue should never occur.

You should have gotten an i7.

There are a lot of reasons this could be happening depending on how Blizzard is implementing their LUA API. That said WoW is actually one of the few games that even allows such addons. Most don’t for this reason.

That wouldn’t make any difference whatsoever since it never happened on my old i3 when I disabled all addons, or at least had less than 200MB usage.

It literally sounds like a you problem though. I have a 16GB i7 and I have zero problems with lag.

I don’t experience any noticeable FPS drops in raids, BGs or majority cities. Hell right now I am sitting at 259mb addon on usage and still getting a reported 90+ FPS. Now I am running a custom display profile that is rated at 8.

Now I do agree that the WoW engine doesn’t do a great job but I am not seeing any major FPS lose at all.

WoW’s not good at maintaining a stable 144+ FPS (on my rig anyway) during raids, but I’m not any MMO is really great at that. I’m also not sure disabling all my addons would help much in that situation.

I am running 440MB addon usage and get 80-90 FPS on max settings while sitting in a major city, head into raid and it drops to around 40. On the flip side if I remove all addons I get a little bit more FPS, but most importantly no FPS drops.

But you see, it’s not just me. So it cannot be a me problem.

I tested with Elvui, Dugi, WeakAuras, BigWigs, BTW Quests and TSM and it lagged. But than I removed all those and just enabled every other addon I have, even ones I don’t even use anymore and it still happened.

So no it is not a specific addon, it’s the amount of addon memory usage that causes problems and you would think after this many years they would have gotten it right and allowed the game to tap into more system resources.

Wow, you are consuming 440mb of addon on memory while doing nothing in a city?!? With just a handful of mods running. Something is clearly going on there. Even in raids I don’t get that high on mod useage.

You are correct that it shouldn’t really be an issue in a modern game but as we all know, WoW is far from a modern game. The only thing you can do it find a way to lower your mod useage or try and lower your graphics setting down from a 10 until you reach an acceptable point.
