WoW--->Final Fantasy XIV

My house is in mist as well, its one of those corner plots (medium house) overlooking everything. I have debated just going back for the moogle event, because i do enjoy healing alliance raids.

Not at all. They’re two totally different grames. As others have said, FF14 is more linear and has systems in place to support that style of gameplay. It is essentially a visual novel with some rhythm game elements for most of its gameplay.

It requiring a lot of reading is why a lot of people expecting a ton of mob grinding like in WoW end up washing out of it.

At endgame, yeah, it’s pretty similar. But as far as a new player is concerned, totally different.

On the plus side, free to try. Sure there are some limitations, like not accessing their version of the AH or joining whatever they call their guilds. But you get plenty of content to play through before you have to decide to cough up money.

Plus, no alts  1 character to do everything,

My advice is try to stick with it until Heavensward. It’s no secret that ARR is a slog to get through and a lot of people quit before they hit the first expansion. But, if you just press through, it really pays off. ARR sets the foundation for all the future plot lines and helps establish the world you’re exploring.

For the actual progression, you can pretty much just stick with the MSQ (the fireball quest markers) and any blue quest icon with a “+” on it as those are necessary to unlock various forms of content from dungeons to raids to PVP and even things like the barber shop and armor dye system.

Mogtome events hit just right for me.

If there’s an outcome in a game that’s just like ‘yeah just do this 300 times’ idk feels comfortable . Alliance raids are fun, all the personalities you meet in a 24-man

They have done some significant changes to ARR where it doesnt feel as bad until you hit post wall MSQ, thats always been the slog part

I heard about that, but I haven’t tried replaying ARR since my first play through back in the day.

I will give you the “video novel” portion (which you can skip, btw)

Other than that, it’s WoW with a Japanese coat of paint.

Even the devs have admitted “they were heavily inspired by WoW” when developing FFXIV.

P.S. Main difference is you wont have a million alts, because every time you swap your weapon in FFXIV, your class changes.

There is quite a bit of grinding for various side activities though. Some events have you grinding FATEs. Creating your relic weapons. … Etc.

yea its pretty nice, you can also do the story now completely solo with a trust system, and no its not AI like the ones in your GC follower dungeons

I think it was more than inspired. When Yoshi.P took over as Game Director after the absolute failure of the 1.0 game, he told the developers to play WoW so they had a better idea of how to design an MMO.

Yeah, the Trust system I knew about. That’s how I cleared ShB and EW MSQ.

There is one place you can’t skip still, and it causes much devastation

Look up Jocat’s crap guides on youtube. They are, despite the name, very helpful in understanding the basics and are also pretty funny.

Also, as a FF14 player who’s coming back to WoW, I would say don’t let yourself get overwhelmed. Being able to do everything on one character can feel like a lot. But it’s okay to not do all that and just focus on the parts you want to focus on.

K thanks for the update. So glad you had to let us know you are going to try another mmo.

How about posting on the FFXIV about tips and advice since these are, you know, the WoW forums and General Discussion is about WoW not other MMOs.

I’d play some OSRS if I could migrate my original toon AND if they would get rid of click to move.

Who’s better - the yandere or the devestator? :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

As someone who went over during Shadowlands my advice woule be not to be in a hurry to reach end game and level cap. FFXIV storytelling has been some of the best story i’ve experienced in a game. The base game ARR ( a realm reborn level 1-50) is a bit rough.

FFXIV also releases content at a significantly slower pase compared to wow so take your time on the main storg quest and enjoy it.
