That, and also the Battle for Undercity questline in Wrath. One of the best quests and epic battles they just took out when the expansion ended. It was something I would have loved to replay over and over on my alts.
If they hadn’t committed to (lying) saying that sylvanas was morally gray and it wasn’t a rehash of garrosh for multiple expansions and said there was good reasons for things we haven’t seen yet… the only “twist” they could do is a redemption arc which everyone has seen coming all along… I doubt most could’ve dealt with a lot of the bad stuff. My lock supported her 100%. When I did the last quest for the campaign she said some stuff that ended up being fluff bs. With a “goodbye my love” crap from nathanos and looking back. I should have just gone for the toy. They said we’d get something eventually as well. Will never happen at this point. Just wasted our time.
I just reverse the time for those zones. We never really went there for endgame anyway. And the portals are actually faster then waiting for a zeppelin which is pretty good.
I dont really mind it since we get a ton of new zones and have time travel to boot.
That I do remember. And I think people could jump on top of the boxes so you could block the AH NPCs. Also, at one point I don’t think there was an AH in Stormwind, only in Ironforge? They might’ve added the AHs in Stormwind and Darnassus after…
First time I’ve seen this commercial and holy crap talk about taking the faction divide too far.
Yep that’s how I feel about it. It was especially dumb because immediately after facing the most terrible threat to the known universe, the two factions go to war with each other over a petty reason instead of… recovering from decades of war and having the entire world broken by a cataclysm.
Burning Teldrassil and blowing up Undercity didn’t make me want to fight, it just made me tired of forced faction conflict and want to pick a third side/become a mercenary. I am soo done with zones being destroyed for nothing.
LOL taking ‘clown fiesta’ to a new level.
The worst part of it all was the genocide, and how this isn’t something you can just bounce back from (though I have no doubts they’ll try to handwave it/forget it somehow). At first I was like some of the night elf posters here just sick of how victimized the race was, then I realized for the Horde it’s not exactly better. They’re always going to have the stain of being complicit with the NE genocide because the writers thought it would be a ‘k00l R3d W3dd1ng moment’. It’s an insult to both factions, and to writing in general.
And Sylvanas is to blame for both cases.
Lets kill her.
Had to find some pictures to compare what you mean. The original Teldrassil was all ‘hazy’ and purple/magenta. The one in Cataclysm has some orang-ish directional lighting from above which totally changes the feel of the zone.
That was one thing I didn’t like in some zones in Cataclysm. Darkshore got the worst of it. The original one was like this gray-greenish-blackish-brown color, kind of cold and gloomy color scheme. In Cataclysm they ruin the whole look with this saturated red haze/lighting like a bad color filter over a photo.
Exactly. It’s why I loathe that one Crossroads cutscene so much; the “What’s different / we are” is so empty a statement when we’re sitting here still at war with each other. And it’s why I continue to advocate for nuking the faction wall from orbit and removing it from the game (or moving it to War mode or something). It may be too late for me to get back into the story despite that, though. I honestly just feel so drained from how bad WoW writing has gotten.
I always wanted Teldrassil/Darnassus to get a visual update.
Well… be careful what you wish for, I guess…
They handwaved and forgot about soany things, this wouldn’t surprise me. I mean… huge sword still stuck in the ground…
Part of me has this small hope that at the end of Shadowlands, Elune will shine in our sky, cleanse the blight from UC and regrow the tree, showing some gorgeous update to both areas.
I know it won’t happen… but I can dream…
Could have added that feeling. There were many, many, many, maybe half of the alliance were night elf hunters back then.
The loss of Auberdine hit me harder.
Playing BC revitalized my old love for that port town.
I did miss Auberdine, but I also loved how they incorporated all of the characters and continued some of the storylines. I think they did it justice. The natural disaster caused by Deathwing was written well, shown well and the storylines reflected that.
Maybe that’s one of the reasons why I didn’t mind so much when things were changed: the reasoning was there and the storytelling to continue on through all of those areas made sense.
Teldrassil and UC were just like, “Hey, let’s have a war and get rid of them just because we can. And then ignore it afterwards. Sounds perfect.”
Idk, Darkshore and the other zones from Cata just make me sad. Permanently ruined with chaotic energies and what not.
Might not be as bad if they had continued to evolve the old world as time went on. They’ve started doing as much… but it’s still a complete downer for me.
The destruction of Teldrassil and Undercity kind of just push folks further into only using SW and ORG which is also disappointing.
Part of the motivation behind their destruction, I’m sure, has to do with their insistence that everyone needs to be funneled into Stormwind and Orgrimmar. They just can’t have people going to the city they like the most.
Makes me wonder if the destruction of Ironforge and Thunderbluff might be next. We return from the Shadowlands to find whatever’s left of the zones destroyed by the Scourge and the factions at war again over bread and milk?
I actually really enjoyed them. I did have one of my favorite spots destroyed and another filled with NPCs, but I love the areas. But I can understand the sad.
Extremely. World of Warcraft is no longer a world.
I have that same fear. Because Blizz doesn’t pay any attention to the playerbase.
i don’t mind org being the main horde city but if sw got blight bombed and we could have IF as the main city as we should, i’d be fine tbh.
I had several chars that set their hearthstones there.
Felt bad to move.
Is what it is.
Feathermoon in Feralas will probably be tne next one to be removed. I would not be surprised if it is sacked by the horde in the next expansion.
Eventually all of the old zones will be covered in fell, split up or destroyed in some fashion. It’s far easier and cheaper to trash an existing zone than it is to create a new one from scratch.
It’s only a matter of time. Shame because I keep bank alts at both.
I always liked the end to that quest on my Horde alts, and I liked the Sylvanas it featured as a tragic figure. I can’t stand the BFA/SL Sylvanas and want her utterly destroyed as the evil villain she is in a future patch.
Hah probably. The original Feathermoon got sunk in Cataclysm. They just dropped that whole island into sea for the lulz. They seem to want to kick night elves off of Kalimdor and forsaken off of the Eastern Kingdoms so destroying/capturing the left over towns is plausible.
It’s also far easier to touch up/expand on an existing zone than make a new one, but they decided to go with edginess and ram the nuke button.
The island is still there. It’s overrun by Naga.
