First and foremost thank you for finally doing this.
I went on the PTR and tested and everything feels freaking amazing… which makes me COMPLETELY FURIOUS AND ABSOLUTELY LIVID THAT YOU DIDNT DO THIS 18 MONTHS AGO WHEN EVERYONE KNEW BATCHING WAS AWFUL.
better let than never i guess. i love classic, but holy crap did you guys take every wrong turn to try (and at times succeeded) to ruin this experience and fix anything wayyyyyy too late.
Great guys, now could you address druids not being able to talk to vendors, talk to trainers, take portals, capture flags, or use items while in feral forms? Please…
I’m so happy that spell batching is being removed. No one wanted to actually play vanilla anyways. While you’re at it Blizz, can you delete booty bay and the shaman class from the game too? I think it will really make the game much more close to what Vanilla was like. Thank you!
There were a disturbingly high number of people saying exactly that, actually. Much of the nochanges crowd was explicitly calling out some of the worst/strangest design decisions made because of hardware limitations of the time as part of the spirit of the game.
Yes, it offered a unique feeling of rage as you get melee’d from 20 feet away, or you pop a heal on a tank and he still dies anyway, or an enemy runs right over your trap without triggering it, or you slowly and painfully buy things from a vendor because holy fug why is buying things from a vendor spell batched???
We don’t even need spell batching. It was implemented in 2004 so that people with bad internet could play the game, but even “bad” internet in 2021 is miles ahead of good internet in 2004. Spell batching is just wholly unnecessary. Nobody asked for the lag of vanilla to be re-created. You may as well have asked Blizzard to re-create server crashes and downtime because “that’s how it was back then”…no that’s dumb.
whyyyyyyyyyy i liked how bad it was! I WANT A BROKEN GAME STOP FIXING STUFF FOR RETAIL PLAYER. legit there is a cleaned up version of the game stop fixing classic and leave it a broken mess for us to enjoy!!!
There may have been some exploits in vanilla that took advantage of batching, that hardcore players wanted to see in classic, because it’d give them an edge. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these hardcore players were part of the developer team, or closely associated with them, hence…batching.
It certainly wasn’t because the average player base wanted it. It made for a pretty awful experience for over a year.
They even mentioned in Dev interviews how recreating the batch window of classic was very difficult, and they did their best to make it “authentic as possible”.
I.E. Different. Or not the same as it did in vanilla.
Why doesn’t Blizz just meet somewhere in the middle at 100-150ms for people who do play on higher latency or cross continent servers? 10ms batch may hurt people on higher pings.
Noone was who was actually playing the beta before/after liked batching when it was adding. And it was very quickly brought up not only how bad it was in general but that it didn’t even work the same as it did in vanilla.
But there were a handful of #nochangers trying to pretend batching had anything to do with skill.
