We all see the RMT ads in Services , or GDKP ads in classic, for boosts/carries and there is no doubt Bliizard (now Microsoft) wastes millions fighting the RMT bots and cheaters related to these services, perhaps the good ol’ US of A, Blizz NA/EU (Microsoft) should grow a backbone like Wow China has?
China has stricter anti-gaming laws. Including time limits and spending limits. Plus every game has to be approved for sale by the government before the first player longs in. That approval can be revoked at any time. They didn’t remove boosting due to a backbone but to keep the game on the market.
Personally, I just turned off the Services channel and use an anti-spam addon to filter other areas.
Yes, the game can only benefit long term from blizzard banning people that do RMT and use boosting services.
but I don’t think blizzard is going to do anything because it would cost them tens of thousands if not possibly hundreds of thousands of subs if they started punishing people now.
What exactly is “illicit raid boosting” as far as China is concerned? I know they have a huge issue with piloting hall of fame sales, which makes me think it is referring to that rather than general sales.
I think Blizzard West should, but it’s not as necessary as it was in China. Gameplay for normal players has been pretty much impossible or extremely hard because RMT, boosting and botting dominated literally everything, to the extent that if you went to a main city hub you immediately got tons of whispers from gold sellers. Or boosting communities hijacked raids and dungeons to kick/bully people out of their group to then sell the free spot.
If nothing else, I like that over in Asia these game providers are only too happy to name-and-shame anyone who gets punished for breaking the rules. I wish they did that over here too.
Maybe the boosting/carries affects the various achievement ladders and cuts out real players who actually play the game and don’t…boost? Even the game gold boosts…
WoW China is clamping hard on piloting. That Wowhead article is misleading (as usual). The blue text makes it extremely clear that they’re going after pilots.
Imagine being such a loser you pay someone else to play a game for you. Doesn’t even matter if you get the FOMO junk from it since it is lost in a sea of bodies far too busy to likely even notice or care on your ill-earned goods in the first place.
