they were two separate things till G4 bought TechTV. thats when things went downhill… G4tv.com the show, Portal and Filter were awesome, after the merger those shows got dropped, brought over X-Play and turned The Screen Savers to Attack of the Show.
they shoulda let TechTV die and stay G4 IMHO…

I’ve two eSports channels, but would much rather have a proper gaming channel that talked about games and gaming…
They couldn’t, they needed to buy TechTV so that they could get onto DirectTV TV listings, otherwise, no advertisers would pick up G4.
i dunno, G4 was jointly owned by NBC and Dish Network, TechTV was Comcast and before they were the comcast we all know and hate today (also owned by NBC now too). i can see them having trouble with advertisers because it was a niche channel, but not ownership.
course im no expert, just my speculation from what i have read.
Much like Blizzard, G4 lost their audience by trying to cater to casual viewers…
Luckily we got Classic WoW to bring the core audience back.
Man, that video brought back memories. I even remember watching that episode when it aired. I still miss X-Play (and Johnny Xtreme, who presented new games that were so extreme, they’d punch your balls off… TO THE EXTREME!!!). Good times.
