Based on the low number of players in WoW this week - I’d say FFXIV must be better than WoW.
There’s tumbleweeds all over the place here.

Arena is the reason for so many FOMO rewards. It’s good that it’s not in that game.

FFXIV is not made for PvP. It isn’t their goal and they don’t try to make it their goal. They do PvE, they do it really well. It’s not perfect, but they focus on the PvE not the PvP.
WoW tries to do it all, and doesn’t shine in any one area (besides raiding). They try to do too much, spread too thin, and try to balance a million systems for both PvE and PvP and it just doesn’t work out well for them or us.
I enjoy PvP now and then but I’m not upset that FFXIV’s PvP is lackluster because it makes up for it in the PvE element which at it’s core is what an MMORPG is about. PvP is a nice bonus.

Idk about that, SE has been doing better at focusing on both compared to how pvp was back in ARR , I remember the times where a pvp match popped once every 3 days. PvP and the community as a whole in ffxiv has come a long way

Or epic bgs. Or world pvp. Or pvp at all most times.
They’re playing BC arena.
ff14 isn’t big on PVP, everyone knows that.
the fact that the game doesn’t have pvp is a huuuuuuuuge nail in the coffin.
therefore, it is not and never will be in competition w/ WoW . it’s not scratching the same itch-- it’s in a different league, a different class- and not not on equal footing. it could be a good game for all I know, but to compare it with WoW is also to compare WoW with something like Zelda really. just not the same
there is a lot of sensationalism about it all because people are really looking for something new and different, we’ve gone wayy too long without the proverbial ‘mmos of the future’ once dreamed about
maybe by stirring the pot a little blizzard will take notice and see that MMOs are still alivein people’s hearts more than ever…
If youre interested in PVP ffxiv is not the place for you.

I’m kind of glad in a way, not that I hate PVP or people that enjoy it - I just don’t think PVE and PVP mix very well in an MMORPG. The balancing of classes becomes more difficult and as a result one or the other suffer, in fact usually both suffer as a result. We see the insanity that Blizzard goes through constantly to try to make classes balanced, and for a time people became frustrated because classes became less unique.
3v3 Arena was absolutely the death of good RPG PvP in this game, especially after it became an Esport. PvP in WoW could of been so much more and far better. The majority of PvP players don’t even do Arena and never will.
With that said it’s clear what game is more popular right now, all the hype is in FF and the upcoming Ashes of creation.
I’m very confused, you say WoW is better solely for arenas, but then you go and agree how bad WoWs PvP is…
Is this what we’ve become, we now just accept bad design like it’s the new “norm”. While I agree FF14 is definitely not known for its PvP more for its PvE and story but regardless I feel like this is bad for WoW…
I think that’s the problem with a lot of players within WoW currently, they accept that it’s bad but keep going with the “it could be worse mentality”, this is the mentality that’s actually ruining WoW… we’ve just become comfortable with how lazy Blizzard has gotten.
Don’t get me wrong Blizzard needs to step up aswell, they’ve gotten waaaaay to comfortable, 9.1 is just resused systems from Legion and BFA and bam that’s a 8 month patch wait…
In short, we’re has our standards gone…
When someone decides to make an even moderately good PvP MMO This game’s PvP scene will be in the gutter. As terrible as WoW PvP is, it’s the best MMO PvP available and that’s just sad.

In this day and age there are far better and more balanced games to play if you’re looking for competition. Wow arenas was cool back in 2007 now it’s just outdated and poorly balanced. I’d rather play a moba or shooter.

Yeah WoW pvp is better than ff14 pvp.
Almost all other aspects tho I’d give ff14 the edge now.
But yeah I still played some pvp in 9.1, until I ran into a bug that stripped me off 500 conquest and put me off playing.
It’s very challenging to say the least.
