Can you actually name something in this game that’s a result of Chinese censorship? Because I seriously doubt the same devs that make those changes for the Chinese version of the game are the ones working on ours. Or that it’s even “everything” that gets changed.
What ever happened to all the Latin Americans and Brazilians that use to play this game? They have like 7 servers on this client. We have a lot of SE Asian players here on the Oceanic servers and all our servers are classed as full or high.
Play on Illidan.
If I remember the statistic that Blizzard provided, the Chinese segment of their sales for the affected products was something around 3%.
Not that 3% isn’t noteworthy, but it’s not like it’s some staggering amount of their sales overall.
I mean, Blizzard at this point looks like it’s trying to cut losses and walk away. Probably a deal breakdown between them and NetEase, because they’re forced to run the Chinese iteration through a Chinese company.
I find it very likely that something happened during license renewal negotiations that started setting off alarm bells. Probably things related to the IP itself.
Not really.
Activision Blizzard only gets 3% of their revenue from China. For Blizzard Entertainment it might be a bit larger, but not by much. Most of their wealth comes from western markets.
China has been cracking down on video games for years now, so the revenue streams from China have likewise been drying up. Blizzard will be fine. There will not be ‘loot boxes’ coming to make up for the loss in revenue. Hell, Blizzard just got rid of loot boxes in Overwatch 2. They’re not about to bring them back or put them in other games.
The biggest hit Blizzard is going to take from losing China is to the Overwatch League, since 4 of the major franchises come from China.
Actually no it’s not. This is a very good move by Blizzard. Also OP, not sure if you’re aware what a major threat China poses to the world. And Blizzard being financially dependent on countries like China, when the world faces possible WW3 scenarios right now
I’d dare say this is one of the best decisions they could make at the moment
Yeah uhh… World War 3 has nothing to do with China or a relationship between Netease and Blizzard.
Talk about creating a strawman.
Sure there are tensions building between the US and China over Taiwan, but that’s been happening for decades. It’s nothing new. And China is one of many nations currently trying to push for peace in Europe, while not providing weapons for either side of the conflict, which is not something the US or EU can claim right now.
WW3 would have nothing to do with China. K
I agree though, China isn’t in full support of Russia and their war in Ukraine. They’re still allies and have pact together against the US
Not unless someone (-cough- The US -cough-) brings China into it, no.
Thus far China has done everything it can to avoid being dragged into pointless wars overseas. I expect that would also be true in the event that the war in Europe escalated.
And no, there isn’t an ‘anti-US pact’. China and Russia are allies, yes, and they trade, but they don’t support each other militarily beyond exercises. There are no Chinese weapons or troops in Russia right now and vice versa. Futhermore, China and the US still trade and still engage in diplomacy although they also know that the US isn’t ever going to be their ally, so they’re not stupid enough to wait for the shoe to drop in the event that they (The US) provoke a war.
Actually there is a pact between Russia and China against the US
I’m not going to belittle your opinions with ‘straw’ comments though. But let’s say the bias is evident that you think it will be the US who provokes that war (which to be fair is possible)
Its unlikely to be long term… That is to say: Blizzard likely has a re-entry strategy in mind. Their Chinese market is arguably more profitable than the American one at this point.
Well the US has a history of attempting regime change and engaging in wars against nations that do things they don’t like. That’s not really news to anyone who’s been paying attention to US foreign policy since the nation was founded back in the 1700s. Their first attempt was in 1805 at Tripolitania, which is modern day Libya, although back in those days it was a colony of the Ottoman Empire and since the close of World War 2 they’ve engaged in no less than 47 other attempts, some successful, some not.
The number may be higher, since there are accusations that they engaged in regime change in Ukraine back in 2014, and there are accusations that they may have attempted regime change in Hong Kong during the 2019 protests.
I wouldn’t. Their WoW Tokens are way better than ours.
Cool.
Maybe will get some fresh bodies behind us instead of the stiffs who buff legacy content.
Imagine how good they probably are in PVP.
Sounds like sensationalism to me. About as fluff as the overhype of Nancy Pelosi visiting Taiwan earlier this year and how it “might enact a war”. While the U.S. President Joe Biden was selling and shipping oil from the country’s emergency oil reserves to China.
Are you going to stop using things made in China?
Good luck with that.
Be like 4,000 BC around here.
The bones thing I think is a cultural taboo in regards to the sanctity of the dead. Its a belief a lot older than the current CCP government so while they’re certainly enforcing it, its not a thing they’ve just plucked out of their puckers. That said I’m fairly certain the mileage of the average Chinese person is going to vary on how much they actually care.
Where’s the historians in GD now? Need to know who opened the door to China and let American companies sell their souls to the cheap labor force!
Is he in Drustvar
