Would you play Hardcore Retail?

It wasn’t all that fun back in '04 playing normally, and they want me to do that in a mode where I lose it all if 1 too many mobs aggros me at any point? Nah, I’m good.

I actually like that. I’d consider it but, knowing how it would roll over. I’d say it would be a conflict of interest.

Low resolution. Hasn’t been patched in forever. Pay to win schemes. No tutorial so I allocated my stats wrong

It’s hard content for people who don’t do hard content.

Also cheap. Take game, remove ability to revive, ship it and say no exceptions to death rule.

Mining ez modes is like difusing a bomb. Not difficult but makes you pay attention.

Maybe if it was actually hardcore. Forced grouping by level 5, mandatory eating drinking and sleep, instead of permadeath have xp debt with deleveling, no ghost run and respawn and have to get back to yourself with no gear or items, and no auction house or cash shop.

maybe?

To be fair that’s most of the game.

Classic really is just not spacing out and walking into a patrol after 120 hours of pressing literally 1 button.

Idk just seems tedious.

Lmao, the copium.

End game progression raiding or keys would be insane over in retail, but for a good portion of the playerbase HC Classic largely revolves around just getting to 60 and if you think that’s harder in retail than Classic then there’s no hope for you.

No.

The chances of me killing myself are higher than if I fought a monster, and I really don’t want “Threw himself in lava” to be engraved on my tombstone.

I leveled my priest to 70 without a care in the world. If you die while leveling in retail you are likely bad, or at best new to gaming. The whole playerbase on retail wants nothing to do with making leveling have any sort of burden to it because they all loathe it.

That is because classic only truly had leveling and few raids as content. There is way more content in retail that has nothing to do with leveling and even small things like mining can kill you now if you don’t pay attention.

I mean, I died from a ceiling mine as well. Delves are places that can spawn a huge boss untop of you which can also kill you. Environmental damages etc.

No. Hardcore Classic works because the game is already solved, hundreds of guides telling you what to do and what to avoid, but most importantly, that includes the raids.

Retail on the other hand, every single pillar of the end game would be unplayable, since it’s
very “trial and error”, meanwhile, no class has trouble in the open world except low level rogues.

I’d never compare HC experience between end game. HC Retail endgame would basically be undoable and the only reason Classic can even remotely pull it off is because of flask of petrification.

My point was that the HC experience that people enjoy is largely around leveling, so to write off retail leveling means you’re no longer comparing apples to apples. A lot of people shelf 60s and then go agane, or do minimal content (like 5 mans or UBRS) after hitting 60.

The reason HC classic is so popular is because the leveling experience can be brutal in Classic. Not everyone likes the Classic design for why it’s brutal, but it can be very unforgiving for various reasons.

Hardcore retail would kind of suck because you basically go from absolutely no challenge anywhere to things that are nearly guaranteeing a few deaths from time to time. Where with classic the potential exists to simply one-shot everything as there is no scaling difficulty modes and no heroic/mythic difficulty in raids.

So, while hardcore classic is already kind of bad, hardcore retail would just be boring until it was guaranteed death. No fun to be had in between really.

Classic you’ll stand in bad, get a dot, then just stand there hoping to get healed or just pop a petri flask and get teleported

Retail you’ll accidentally put your left toe into an aoe and you’re dead

Which is why HC retail will never work. It is a different game entirely. Retail is about end game content and world events, which are highly chaotic.

HC classic is only fun because of the leveling and how predictable it is.

I’d agree with that.

I’m not sure I’d call it predictable per se, but it is a solved game if that’s what you mean. Lots of people playing Classic never did or only know retail and don’t study how the game works before playing. Tons of HC deaths occur because people make bad assumptions or didn’t know about a mechanic, but all that information is available if someone desires to know before doing any certain activity.

And even if you know the game inside and out you can still get blasted for one reason or another.
