Would you pay $39.99 for your Allied Race of choice?

If you answer yes to this, congrats, you are the reason we get $40 early access and $20 skins. Well done.

Servers don’t run on well wishes and positive vibes.

I get that you’re trying to push your point, but if they started charging for allied races, I would just quit the game in general. It simply would not be worth my time or money. I stopped playing for years when character boosts came out, and again with WoW tokens. Monetizing the game progression is not the way to go. This is a just a digital experience with no permanence.

You are correct, they don’t run on wishes and positive vibes, they run on the $15/mo sub fee. lawl

absolutely, as a hypothetical wish kinda thing. Would be pretty bummed if they hit the in-game shop like mounts.

My most wanted races are also the ones least likely to happen, like Sporelings, Kobolds, Gnolls, Murlocs, Mantids, etc.

That’s a fair philosophical stance. I find it a bit outdated, but it’s as fine a hill as any to die on.

Honestly, they likely don’t. I doubt that a WoW without the token, cosmetic shop, and various account services would be a sustainable product. Especially considering inflation.

Yes. I’m pretty sure I would.

I wouldn’t ever pay for allied races, its supposed to be earned

I’m not a severe addict with more money and vanity than common sense, so no. I’m already expected to pay $144-180 a year just to play the game, $50-90 for retail expansions, $30-80 for Classic expansion bundles, $60 for level boosts, and $10-30 for store cosmetics and character services. I draw the line at paying an additional $40 for races that I should be getting for free, especially at a time when $70 for a new AAA game is the norm.

To compare this to another MMO that does sell races in its in-game shop, I give SWTOR a pass because on top of the game itself and its expansions being free, there are only three paid races/species - cathar, togruta, and nautolans - but they only cost $6 each, most of which is reimbursed by the 500 store credit you get a month for having an active subscription, and changing your character’s species costs $8 instead of $25. They also don’t have racial abilities that impact your character’s performance and are unique from what’s included in the base game. The devs don’t sell you races like sarkhai (near-humans whose only distinguishing features are pale skin and blue facial markings and who look identical to humans otherwise) under the assumption that a recolor of something you already have will make you want to subscribe for the next 10 years.

The desire to see Blizzard implement predatory practices like this is baffling, and seeing people saying they’d be okay with it if it means they get to be a high elf or sethrak is a bit worrying. I see posts suggesting races in the store, races on the Trading Post, crests in the store, etc. from people who think the WoW devs are more cutthroat than they actually are. Remember the first boss of Motherlode having a self-buff called “Pay to Win”?

I’d rather just toss 20 dollars so Blizzard can give an actual customization pass to blood elves so they’re not mid anymore, the males get more than 1 page of customization, and the women aren’t boiled down to “bought it at warlmart” jewelry.

Honestly, I’d be fine with a good, solid pass on the races as a system. Those mockups of subrace selection would make stuff like Wildhammer being embedded in Bronzebeard tolerable.

Should we? Perhaps. Have we? This thread wouldn’t exist if they cared to take deep cuts from the old world and make them playable. I would rather shell out a few bucks to get something I want rather than have those features simply not exist. Ever.

Howso? A hypothetical Allied Race would still have quest hoops to jump through.

I would pay that if I could be horde / alliance with all current races.
Even 59.99

I’d pay $20 for Etherael. New races in other games are $10-20. Anything more is redic. But with the d4 cash shop anything is possible.

Hmm. Might I ask why? Legitimately curious.

That’s a line that shouldn’t be crossed, from my perspective. While the players should be able to do whatever they want with each other, having certain political entities perceive other political entities differently based upon their histories is important. An Orc and Human should be able to team up to take on any mutual foe, but I don’t think that we need that Orc to be able to have a chat with Stormwind’s bread vendor.

No, I will not pay additional fees for new races.

It is a minor miracle that they were featured twice. I can’t imagine us ever returning to Draenor in any significant capacity. Thus, I cannot imagine us getting them through the traditional development cycle.
