Final Fantasy XIV just banned (terminated, not just suspended as Blizzard does) over 5,000 accounts for violating the rules surrounding “real money trading and other illicit activities” that undermine the in-game economy, and throw the balance out of whack.
A further 814 were terminated for trying to take part in the above, advertising or otherwise attempting to create a deal that involved real currency, rather than the gil that’s used through-out the Final Fantasy series.
Imagine if Blizzard attempted this kind of effort rather than the laissez faire attitude they have adopted towards their servers. Maybe they can send some of their staff over to Square/Enix to learn a few things about administering MMORPGs?
Fresh servers will not be the complete answer, I agree. I am hoping Blizzard has something up their sleeves with regards to better oversight of the servers in TBC Classic. If not, it will most likely be the last Blizzard game I play. As the above shows, there are much better managed games out there.
I can hope though, right?
Thanks.
