A trophy NPC that just exists to exist isn’t “romance.” We already had to do quests for Magni, having to hear about how much he needed us to fill the Heart.
Again, Warcraft doesn’t write good romance, implementing it as a game mechanic and calling it “Hearts of Azeroth” is just an April Fool’s patch joke waiting to happen. They tried dark romance with Sylvanas and Self-insert Nathanos, they tried flowery romance with Tyrande and Malfurion, they tried tragic romance with Jaina and everyone in the village, they did sad guy with dead wife multiple times. Like, Blizz doesn’t mesh well with romance.

Yes, but only if one of the options is a pandaren.

I would like this.
An assistant system for solo questing or delves would be super cool. Voice lines, character disposition, some romance maybe.
SWTOR did it really well. Would be nice to get some flavor in the boring NPCs of this game. The people who are saying “Please no” and not elaborating just don’t like worldbuilding or roleplaying/roleplayers.
Astronomically based.

So a simple question would be.
Do you want it to be able to do delves with you?
Essentially replacing brann.
But then it would have some sort of player power tied to it.
SWTOR is T and you can have romanceable companions.

With the way they treat Alleria and Turalyon’s relationship, I’m not confident they can write compelling relationship options. I’m a fan of these types of things in single player game, but in an MMO it just seems to not have much benefit. I wouldn’t crap on people for wanting it, but I don’t really think it provides much of a benefit in WoW.

They’ve done it in the Witcher, Skyrim and many others, but I’d imagine for that to be avaliable in the game they would have to separate the realms by age.
Nah fam, Malfurion and Tyrande, peak Blizzard marriage. One sleeps for 10k years and the other is wife aggro.

Ehhhh, it’s… not amazing. Not bad. Not amazing. Could be better.
Blizzard just doesn’t unfortunately write compelling characters, anymore.

I think you kinda just described most relationships past the 10 -20 year anniversary honestly… let’s be real here…
I will be curious to see if Lor’themar and Thalyssra have any personality in the expansion.

I don’t know if she’s still with Blizzard, but Madeline Roux wrote ‘A Moment in Verse’ which I found delightful for Lorthemar and Thalyssra. She’s primarily a horror writer IIRC but if she was involved, I’d be more confident.

But we’re talking about the context of written relationships in WoW in comparison to, say, any Bioware game pre-Veilguard, Baldur’s Gate 3, and SWTOR. Blizzard would never catch up to how those were written, even if they did add just 6 or 7 characters your character can romance.
IRL relationships are irrelevant.

Thalryssa is gonna have a few hundred hours long talk with Xal’atath about foot wine XD.

We’re talking a romance arc, not full frontal.

How about an opt-in “flirt” system? Something you have to turn on in your settings or through a Love is in the Air NPC. When active you can choose your “preferred type” from a list. Playing a male toon and want to be flirted with by female NPCs? Choose that. Playing a Dwarf and want only other Dwarves to flirt? Choose that. Playing an Undead and only want Gnomes to flirt with you for the lulz? Choose that. Then you can choose how you want to be perceived. You can choose from options like “sexy” and “cute” and “frightening.”
Once selected, certain NPCs would recognize you as the Champion and have a special dialogue option. (a little heart above their head, like a a dialogue scene indicator) Talk to them and you get a cute little scene that shows where they know you from and how they feel about you.
“You were there when Onyxia took over Stormwind. Her attack destroyed my family home and we barely escaped. When the message arrived that Onyxia had be defeated I ran outside and saw her head mounted in Stormwind. Then I saw you. I didn’t know who you were then, I just remember the way you looked. You looked so strong, and I knew from the crowd that you had been the one that saved us. I’ve never forgotten that day. I’ve never forgotten you.”
Thanks, I’ll look into that!
The amount of people confusing “romance” with “full frontal [REDACTED] scenes” is concerning.
It’s like… super obvious Blizzard wouldn’t put the latter in the game, due to the rating.

I used to play this game called Fable, I loved it. It was short but you had actual choices and there were different results that came from your choices which meant you could play it over and over, making different choices.
In Fable, you could get married. It was funny, interesting and opened a bit of a mini game within it.
If Blizzard did something like that, I could see it. If someone wanted their character to be able to date, get married, have a family to go along with their house, why not?
Could choose from some npc’s or could choose another player you’re role playing with.
Kids would have to be npc’s though. Otherwise that would just get too weird and could end up being a PR nightmare.

I’ve long suspected MG has a problem with relationship issues seeing as that’s what 90% of them consider a “Relationship” and most of them seem to detest anyone under 18.
