Every class has like the same moves every class can self heal every class has a meta. Balance is only a spec in my mind, it does not exist
Yeah the classes are so homogenised that as an altoholic, my key/mousebinds are so, so similar between every spec and it’s also way easier to play every single spec than it should be IMO.
Balance is easy to achieve, especially with this level of homogeneity. It’s not the goal of an MMO. Stuff that’s OP that leaks through and is later nerfed is by design, too, it’s not by mistake.
If you really think DKs were OP at the start of Wrath by mistake, I don’t know what to tell you.
Class/spec refreshes and shifting balance was how the game used to be kept fresh. It’s sort of shifted to ‘borrowed power’ – certain covenants and legendaries for certain specs are more attractive or powerful than others.
But the foundation is now pretty homogenous.
This stuff is usually planned out well in advance and devs citing balance issues are just lying
In terms of multiclassing it could be as simple as “hey you’re allowed to slot in 4 skills and one big cooldown skill all of your choosing” or something as crazy as “okay your base class is Rogue? and you want to be a Rogue-Paladin? here’s 5 or 6 completely unique Rogue-Paladin skills”. Give each class a few bonus skills unique to whatever their combo is. Mage-Priest. Mage-Warrior. Druid-Warlock. Whatever.
The unique skills idea would be a bit of work for all the combinations but so damn cool.
Totally agree with the slots. Might even make a bit of how abilities are classified more transparent to the players, even – 1 mobility move max, for example (so no sprint AND shadowstep when making your second class Rogue).
I keep my rotation on QERTZXF, 1 is a stun/CC slot, 2 and 3 are utility, 4 is interrupt, 5 is a self-buff. It’s amazing how after Legion they were like “uhhh sorry guys we focused too hard on specs, back to class identity!” and I’m just sitting there like “no go back the hyperfocusing was neat actually”.
It’s really the one thing that GW2 still has (since they oversimplified specializations where you now just smack three on rather than invest points to mix and match) is the slotting system for your hotbar and they do the same thing. One’s an elite/big skill, one’s your healing skill, and the remaining three are your assortment.
Bonus points if, in Warcraft, we could pick some passives from classes. I’d love the aesthetic of a Single-Minded Fury dual wield paladin.
Death Knight Bates isn’t real, he can’t hurt you.
As fun as it is to speculate about how different classes can mix and match with each other, I feel like the most practical way to go about it would be either class re-skins, or a whole new experimental class, maybe called like the Adventurer or something, where you get to pick and choose abilities from other classes as you level. The problem will always be that in the end. Something will come out on top as the optimal play style, and people will be peer pressured into it. Which is why I think re-skins are ultimately the better choice to go about this. Style points only.
Remember Inscription? I remember Inscription. If only Blizzard did something with it.
Oh gee if only we had some sort of way to customize the look of our spells. Maybe it could be a play on how the interface for our abilities is a spell book. Some sort of… glyphs? Nah that’s just crazy talk, Blizzard would never do that.

Also my one wish would be for a glyph that changes the divine steed into a mount in your mount favorites list, please I would donate my liver for that glyph please oh please OH PLEASE OH PLEASE
Glyph of Divine Mekgineer’s Chopper
Now that’s a holy roller!
I feel like we might see ‘class skins’, they’ve been brought up a lot in the past few years and would be easier to implement than other things. Plus, people love/loved cosmetic upgrades and improvements.
An adventurer class would be amazing though. They could even put in a limited pool of abilities from each class/spec to ensure it didn’t negate the need to level the actual class.
It could also be tied to what you’ve got at cap – as you level each class to end-game, you unlock that ‘tree’ or whatever.
I’d love that, and a lot more RPG elements, it would just be amazing if their next game director wasn’t tunnel visioned on end-game PvE/raiding.
Adventurer would be a really cute idea and kind of tabletop-y (which I am very down for), but I still yearn for Tinker first.
Imagine if professions could allow for you to reskin your class into something, like Engineer could unlock to change your abilities into looking like a tinker. Could have unique transmog items like a ghostbuster backpack or something.
Yet that would suck if you’re like me and have had enchanting since vanilla and not ready to delete your profession but what if you could pay to respec your profession. Which would allow you to level multiple professions without losing unique recipes and things which you had level over the years.
It’d also help revitalize old profession tiers and speaking for myself but I make a lot of money selling old profession materials and I’d make so much gold to immediately waste and spend on transmog and pets lmao
I will spec for jumping so that I can heroic leap->infernal strike->rogue grapple thing->disengage my way across the land
Let’s not make it convoluted with sone partial level thing. It can be as simple you level class A to 60 and level class B to 60. Maybe class B is restricted to IDK ten spells but you can slot any of class B’s spells into those ten slots to customize your play style.
It could change the name of your class based on what you pick. Shaman-mage could be farseer. Hunter-shaman could be Shadow hunter.
And forget balance. It is high time we just admit the game will never be balanced and just focus on fun ideas. Blizzard has proven after over 15 years balance will not happen, so it is time to make suggestions with what is fun. Balance can take a back seat like it always has.
I’d say put “lore abiding” on the shelf too. A tyrant orc time traveled to an alternate dimension which brought evil demonic space aliens to Azeroth leading to an anime sword forcing a crystal beard to try to heal the planet while a dead evil elf burned a tree and threw a rock at literally the sky leading everyone to side with vampires, faeries, super scourge and Greeks. At this point what even is lore? Let’s make our own lore and suit our own RP. And we can do that with a dual class system that remains as unrestricted as possible.
I’m just thinking like, what if I got max alchemy and then I can reskin my class to throw alchemy bottles and chemical bombs at enemies for all my attacks like my drug dealer alchemist in my old pathfinder group lol
ive changed my mind. this is a great idea
a rogue with fire mage abilities
I will be the next Hokage
