This is the worst argument from the pro rdf people.
You can walk 15 miles to work (and back) at 100+ degrees every day, or use a car that contributes to pollution. “But you dont have to use the car if you dont want to!”
Tell me who would NOT be using the car?
Give people the convenience and they will use it, even if its bad in the long run due to it slowly poisoning the game.
I couldnt care either way. My preference is for it to be there but it doesnt break Wrath for me by not being there. Its not my call anyway so Im not attached.
Other than that the truths of the matter can’t really be contended with. It is or was an incentivized convenience that made grouping much easier. I guess it depends on your philosophical bent on whether thats a good thing or a bad thing but we can say if its easier then you gave up something to get that and if you gave up something then you have less of a game.
The players are not being asked to sacrifice for it so that sacrifice takes place elsewhere instead - you always have to give up something to get something. Doesn’t look like there’s much agreement (the reality is no one really cares anymore) on what that sacrifice is or could be but it comes at the expense of something.
Ill leave it all up to you to decide (I have my own theory) but the fact is we have less of a game and more convenience. /shrug
The people who enjoy walking would continue to do so
You know just like how the people who don’t like LFD would just not use it.
They would probably also be insufferable to be around when started whining about how much more character they had just because they walked, you know kind of like people who pretend pugging chat is so great.
This is a bad analogy, as with the existence of public transit (good public transit, not what we have in NA which has been directly impacted by auto makers, oil & gas companies, and city planners), you have less control over your travel but it’s largely automated and is in general much better overall for the environment - which is more akin to RDF.
Driving your own car would be more like creating your own group, especially without any PuGs, as this is generally more harmful to the community as it’s more insular.
The point is, if we’re likely to get it at all it’s probably going to be with compromise, that’s an easy no brainer to compromise, nothing extra from RDF.
The issue is there’s no objective way to quantify what is being exchanged. Most particularly on the what is being given up side.
I can very clearly quantify exactly what I get from LFD, but abstract claims like you are giving up community or you got less of a game are a lot harder to quantify. There’s also some implication that it’s a zero sum exchange, which is by means always the case.
Thats why I’m strictly against compromise. Blizzard will remove something that is one of the core reasons to have RDF, thus making it just as useless as not having it at all. RDF should be all or nothing.
Removing the teleport - Why? Afking on a flight path is not content
Remove cross server - So more people can flock to mega servers? Thats actually a negative, not a positive
Removing the badge bonus - …isn’t this the whole reason people run dungeons in the first place?
I can’t think of a single compromise that doesn’t actually make RDF useless.
I have no idea why the Anti crowd enjoys spamming chat and spending time standing around waiting instead of using the system added in wrath to remove the unnecessary effort needed to find a group. Maybe you guys should find a chat room game and leave the dungeon crawling to people who want to play a game.
LFG is binary, Yes we need you, No we don’t need you. That’s the totality of the social aspect of looking for a group in chat.
Do you think about your responses before you post? 2 badges per day, 5 dungeons per week, is 10 extra badges. Thats at least 40 extra badges per month if you skip weekends. Thats basically an entire piece of gear that you just don’t get any more for the sake of ‘compromise’.
